Hello Everyone,
Many people ask this question whether to apply with IDP or British Council and have many misbeliefs regarding both the authorities. Here am clearing this doubt.
IDP and British Council both are authorities which conduct IELTS exam. Level of difficulty, test style, marking methodology remain same. It doesn't make difference on your exam whether you apply with BC or IDP not even to your score. Even many people say if you want to go Australia then you should apply through IDP Australia, but this is also incorrect. Your IELTS result is considered everywhere irrespective of the body of conducting this exam.
What is the difference then?
1. Registration Method - Registration method is bit different.
- In IDP you have an option to upload your passport and you can also select your speaking date slot which is not the case in BC.
2. Test details communication -
- In IDP on the same day your registered and made payment you would get details stating 50% of your test details including both speaking and LRW.
- In BC you would get confirmation mail but test details would be communicated 3 to 4 days prior to the exam which falls first. If your LRW test is gonna get conducted first then 3-4 days prior to your exam date you would be receiving test details email and if your speaking test date falls first then 3-4 ays prior to your speaking test date you would be receiving mail.
- So unlike IDP, in BC you won't have any idea about your test priorly. You will be communicated all the details as explained in above point. So you do not have to get panic incase your friend applying through IDP gets details and you don't. If you don't get 3 days prior to your exam date then you may need to call or email them.
3. Test Venue -
Venue is different for both the authorities.
Apart from this fees and time to generate result, exams everything remain the same. All the best!!
