they only gave me 7 in writing when there was less than 8 band in listening, cuz every time I am getting 9 in reading and 7 or more in speaking. a foreigner gave me 6.5 twice, but I got one test revaluated from that two tests, then got 7.5 in speaking in revaluation, 6.5 to 7.5, though writing 6.5 remained same.

I was so sure this time. I wrote variety of sentence structures, vocabulary, properly answered the question topic. I don't understand what happened..

I am so frustrated now!!!!

Seeing this message early morning just when you wake up was bliss. Knowing that I don’t have to give this exam one more time. Man

Thanks! This was my first attempt, so I just gave myself about a month's time. During this month, collectively I would have spent only a day or two actually preparing. Stick to one set of prep materials, don't try everything that is out there.

I did a few practice tests from IELTS 12, whenever I got time in the evenings. Mostly, I focussed only on writing. Learn how to write structured essays, which is what you need in IELTS. For speaking, just be casual. Don't be tempted to use very fancy words/vocabulary as some suggest. Keep it simple and casual, like you would talk to your friend. Hope this helps

It was my 4th attempt and atlast achieved the Band 7 in Writing, as I was stuck on it, (6/6/6.5) were the last scores.

I prepared my self with the Discussion Essay ( took ieltsliz video on Discussion Opinion Essay) and went through the Chris ( IeltsAdvantage) 5 day Challenge.
One thing i realized was that, I was missing to put forth my view from start to end in the task,this essay type needs you to make your opinion amply clear from starting till the end. And this time i made sure my opinion was there in Introduction/Body and Conclusion. Used basic essay structure -

Introduction - Generic Topic Statement
Rephrase the question (While ......,whereas others......)
Your opinion (I believe,.....)
Body Para 1 - Topic Sentence ( On the one hand,....)
Explain
Example (For instance,...)
Supporting Sentence ( Furthermore,....)
Bode Para 2 - Topic Sentence ( On the other Hand,in my view....)
Explain
Example ( For example,....)
Supporting Sentence ( Moreover,....)
Conclusion - Recap your topic Sentences ( In conclusion,....)
Your opinion (in my view......)

I hope this would help you guys to overcome the hurdle.

This was my second time that i wrote IELTS

My first test in May scores are : L 8.5, R 8, W 6.5 & S 7.5 - Even though this test went very well i was not sure why my scores were so dismal. I did not prep at all for this test.

Second test was in Sep - and below are the steps or strategies I followed.

For listening - BBC Podcasts to familiarise yourself with US, UK and AU accents as their range of intellectuals on the show are surprisingly good.

I was already really good at reading and listening, to improve your reading you can read The Economist Magazine. It is the best and comprehensive source out there in every topic.

Speaking no Prep - Thanks to the global company I work at - I interact with team mates from London, Americas & Even Asia pacific almost everyday. kept my speaking to very simple and known vocabulary (do not learn new works to impress the examiner this will not work and you may end up making mistakes)

Writing - I signed up for e2 language Ielts prep Trial program. It is sufficient to give you a complete overview of how to go above the 7 band and their strategy is well taught. I prepped for about 3 days max and my score improved to 7 in the first attempt itself.

What I would suggest is - when ever are you prepare for writing, if you see an essay that is being discussed in the class please just don't listen, you should write it down and then write it again, the third time try to write that essay on your own with few ideas you just learnt and then compare.

you will automatically correct quite a lot of errors that are not apparent to you and will be a better writer.

Find a Book that has good band 9 essays - steer clear from the garbage IELTS IDP or BC material. Read the essays to understand how the author is explaining his ideas and sticking to the point at the same time complete the all tasks.

These would go a long way. if you feel you make a lot of mistakes in grammar I suggest you install "Grammerly" on your computer.
Once you write your essay - you can launch this program and type the exact essay word for word and it will tell you where you are wrong.
if your subject verb, or even the plurals, the singulars, tenses match and agree.

Best possible plug in out there to improve Cohesive and Coherence of the essay. Their free plan is enough don't sign up for their premium (I am very certian that It definitely would be way way better service but the free one is just as good)

Why pay when 98% of the product works free! right.

Got 7 in writing via EOR, shitheads are giving lower bands on purpose, keep trying.
