Hello

I have questions, I believe that we required to get English proficiency to able to apply for citizenship.

I had my IELTS 2 yrs back and it is only valid for 2 yrs from the day you get your certificate.

I am planning to apply my citizenship this coming June 2015, question is am I able to send with my old IELTS certificate? instead of getting a new one.

Please anyone can help me on this.

You can use the expired IELTS certificate's copy too.

Plz read:

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), general training, not the academic version You must have achieved a score of:
4.0 or higher in speaking, and
4.5 or higher in listening. (Please note: If the test was done before November 28, 2008, we will accept a level 4 or higher); or

Why do they have expiry date on these things that's just crap and money making
- U need to obtain a current one since there is an expiry date on the previous one
- If u wont get the current one in time to apply for your citizenship still submitting the old one, don't wait as they very well use the old one

@DAN11 as per the application guide, IELTS General is accepted regardless whether it is valid or expired. Please check the following link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp

Results of an accepted third-party test at the equivalent of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB/NCLC) / Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiensFootnote 1 level 4 or higher in speaking and listening either done previously for immigration purposes (acceptable even if expired) or done specifically for citizenship purposes. Test results from the following list are acceptable:
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General Test (CELPIP-G) or the CELPIP-General LS (listening and speaking), not the academic version.
For tests taken after April 1, 2014, you must have achieved a score of level 4 or higher (up to 12) in listening and speaking
For tests taken before April 1, 2014, you must have achieved a score of 2H or higher (i.e., 3L, 3H, 4L, 4H, 5L, or 5H) in listening and speaking.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS), general training, not the academic version You must have achieved a score of:
4.0 or higher in speaking, and
4.5 or higher in listening. (Please note: If the test was done before November 28, 2008, we will accept a level 4 or higher); or

mine was taken April 2012 (IELTS) and my total score was 6.5, so means i can still send this even it is expired.

But shows test was done before NOv 20008 and mins was done 2012 April

Thank you so much

Yes, you can send the expired one. As you have done it in 2012, you need to make sure the following criteria's are met:

4.0 or higher in speaking,
4.5 or higher in listening.

If you still have doubts, plz call the call centre at 1-888-242-2100

If you would have done the test before 28, Nov 2008 then the following would have applied to you:

4.0 or higher in listening.

This does not apply to you because you have done IELTS in 2012. Thus you need to have atleast 4.5 in listening and atleast 4.0 in speaking
