Again, today I took the IELTS. I need 16 points. I think I did well in speaking, writing and reading. Now, listening, I need Band 7.5 and the last time I took it I got a 7. I missed three questions and I might have gotten another two wrong. What is the maximum number of questions I can get wrong and still get 7.5?

Thank you.

@junmanuel

Sorry, I believe you will need to take the IELTS again. The new rules specify a minimum threshold of CLB7, which means you need to score at least 6 in each section in IELTS. If you score below 6 in any one section, you need to redo the IELTS. Keep in mind that only your new scores will be considered, so you need to score at least 6 even in the sections where you already got 6 in your first attempt. You cannot club points from across multiple IELTS tests.

You are almost there. Just a little bit of focus on reading should help you sail through. Good luck!

@sameer004

Here is a suggestion for reading. Practice all the reading sections in at least three or four Cambridge practice test papers (I think Book 8 is the latest as of this posting). You are probably focussing on GT. Try the Academic Reading sections too. They are tougher and in some sense an overkill, but if you are able to crack them, you will find that the GT reading test (especially the long passage in Reading Section 3) is child's play. Also, when you do the reading tests, try to time yourself and stick to the 1 hour specified. Your 8.5 in listening makes me confident you can get a better score in reading. All the best!

PS: This is my personal view and there is no single formula that will work for all. This advice also depends on whether you have enough time for the test. If your test date is very close, or if time is an issue, it is better you focus on GT reading only and not waste time doing the Academic tests.
