Thank you Scylla, finally good news Smiley

And just because it's not complicated enough: I will travel outside Canada and come back before the current Work Permit will be expired, but after having applied for the Visitor Visa and hopefully after having applied for the new Work Permit. What is going to happen at the Port of Entry? Will my status change somehow or I'll just keep the current status?
If I understood your question correctly, here is my opinion. I guess you had a visa in addition to your current work permit, which you used to enter Canada, right? (which is assuming your passport is not from a visa-exempt country).
If so, and if that visa was multiple entry (not single entry) then you can re-enter Canada using the same visa (If it was single, then it is already used and expired).
and once you re-enter Canada this way, sure you can work using your current work permit till its expiry date.

As a matter of fact, people on implied status (which will not be your case) may get problems if they travel and re-enter Canada during the implied status period and practically have to stay in Canada till receiving the new work permit.

Thank you Samanta, I read that and it makes sense, they clearly explain that Implied Status is not available for IEC.

So I guess I'll submit a Work Permit application as fast as I can and in parallel I will apply for a Visitor Visa, just to make sure I can stay in Canada legally. If I'll do that, will I be at least allowed to work until the expiring date of my current Work Permit?

Thanks

I guess you may also be able to get your visitor visa by flagpoling which means going to US border and requesting a visitor visa at the Canadian Border Services. If I am right and you can do that, it will save you time at least and you avoid waiting weeks for it.
