IEC visa - activation and re-entry

Hello all,

Having searched this forum and the internet, and not come up with a clear and satisfactory answer to my question, I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what to do next. Its slightly complicated - bear with me!

I have dual nationality, and thus two passports - Australian (where I was born) and the UK. I now live in the UK, and have been here for 9 years. I applied for and received my IEC visa last year (via my Australian passport). The PoE letter expiry is early May 2015, so I have to get to Canada before then. Trouble is, I applied for my IEC at the age of 30, and am now 32, so if I don't use it, I lose it! No more IEC for me.

My partner and I had planned to move to Canada by last month, but work situations here in the UK have meant that we can't move to Canada just yet. So instead we've planned a two week trip to Canada for this April, so that I can 'activate' my IEC visa before the expiry in May. Our work commitments should be sorted out over the summer, so we can get to Canada properly and begin to live there.

I'm well aware that once the IEC visa is 'activated' (so to speak) that the two years time limit begins to tick and I don't get any extensions - that's all fine! But what I'm wondering is are the immigration officials going to have any problem with me turning up for two weeks, leaving, and then re-entering?

Not only that, but I'm sorting out travel insurance/health insurance too. Normally I'd just get travel insurance for the two week trip and then something more long term for when I arrive to stay - but not sure what the best solution is! My partner has a different visa to me, as he's solely on a UK passport, so he's sorting himself out.

I would love to hear from anyone who has had any similar experiences or issues that relate to this. Apologies for the complexity! My partner has a different visa to me, as he's solely on a UK passport, so he's sorting his stuff separately.

Thanks in advance!

If by two years you mean continuing to stay in Canada by applying for a Young Professional visa, these two can have a gap in between. Keep in mind though that for the Young Professional one the same age restrictions apply.

No, you can leave and re-enter Canada.

This is what the website says:
be able to take out health insurance for the duration of your stay – you may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada,

I have never heard that they actually checked that though.

Agreed with toben

However, as for IEC/Working Holiday health insurance, sometimes they actually check it and you won't be able to enter Canada, assume you've just landed and you are in the airport, until you get an adequate medical coverage for the duration your intended stay.

If you are looking for an IEC insurance from a Canadian company, you can check out this WEBSITE.
