Hi Guys,

I've been in Canada since last year March 2018 and have come in on an IEC Working Holiday. My working Holiday Visa is expiring this month, I have however been selected for the Young Professionals program. My workplace has done their application and paid the $230 compliance fee, and so have I. My application was sent in on the 4th of Feb, but I am going to assume I am not going to have it before the 15th of March (expiry).

I was hoping to flagpole and come back on a visitors visa, then wait here until I have approval of my Young Professionals Visa to continue working. The reason I do not want to leave Canada is because going back to South Africa, I might need to do a medical for the second time. I have a car and am renting a place, so it would not make sense to go back. I am applying under Dutch Citizenship as I did before and there has never been a problem with Visa's or ETA's/ESTA's. Anybody been through this before and could shed any light on the situation? That would be great!

Thanks in advance

T

Others can comment as well but might be a better option to use the extend stay as a visitor option as opposed to flagpole for a visitor stay given no guarantees you would either be let back in or get an extended visitor stay. Once you send in the extend stay as a visitor you are on implied status as a visitor pending approval which can take a few months. Just my view anyway decision is yours

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply!! Just wondering though, can it be sent in online? I've tried getting through and it gives me an option to somehow mail it in by post which I think is not the greatest idea.

I'm positive I need this one:

Who should apply for a visitor visa instead of a visitor record
You need a new visitor visa (not a visitor record) if you meet all the conditions below:
  • you’re already in Canada <<
  • you already hold a valid study and work permit <<
  • you want to leave and return to Canada <<
  • your existing visitor visa is expired or was valid for only one entry
When you apply to extend your stay as a visitor, we give you a visitor record. A visitor record doesn’t let you return to Canada. That’s why you need to apply for a new visitor visa.

Apply for a visitor visa from inside Canada

I will add as well that I am on a Dutch Passport with a valid eTA under the visa waiver program. Thank you!

No, you need this:

As you say you have an eTA (visa-exempt) you don’t qualify for a visitor visa.

You are the absolute best. I finally got through to this section after a few tries with the come to Canada tool and this seems like the one with the correct form and $100 fee. I just want to be sure I can get an implied status while I wait. Will keep you all posted!
