Hey guys!

I just saw on the iec uk website that they have dropped the residency requirement!

Even though I have an outland pr application in process can I apply for this? Does a working holiday count as duel intent or will it cancel my pr? I was originally planning on staying as a visitor after my current iec expires but this may help seriously!

I am totally eligible for this iec program and it would make being in canada during the pr process so much easier if I can work!

Any ideas/help?

1. You could have applied, except that the first 1000 IEC UK visas are already gone. Your next chance is 25/02/13 when the next 2000 are up for grabs.

Yeah I saw that. I've got it all ready when the next come available. But its totally ok to apply while my pr is in process yeah?

Other question I have is regarding repeat participation.I was in canada on bunac first followed by iec. Does this count as having applied twice? Or only once as the first was bunac?

Hi Gary,

Yes, my girlfriends current (2nd) BUNAC visa expires on May 3rd this year, we will be submitting an application for her to apply for another IEC visa.

I am pretty certain you were only allowed to apply in accordance to the living requirement in UK (18months in last 3 years) , which they have dropped this time! ;D

would be interesting to hear from someone else though to confirm if it does/does not affect common-law PR sponsorship though.

Cheers!

Yeah. I'm just wondering if I'm eligible or not. Cos I was on bunac then iec. Not sure if I can get another one.

Also curious to know if it affects my pr. Being able to work through it would be so much easier!

Hopig someone can help me.

Hi Gary,

Found this today that answers your question to this thread.

I have applied for permanent residence status and I’m waiting for my file to be processed. Can I go to Canada in the meantime under the IEC initiative?

The IEC initiative is not designed to provide work permits to those waiting for permanent residence status. However, if you meet the eligibility criteria of the initiative, you are welcome to submit an application to participate.

Quoted from IEC website FAQs for UK

Awesome! Thanks for finding that. I'm afraid however I don't think I can apply. I think bunac counts as my first year which would mean my current iec is my second and not my first. If anyone can co firm that id appreciate it but I don't think I'm eligible. Shame really. Would really help!

Q: I have participated in the IEC on a previous occasion. Now that participation is restricted to two one-year periods, does my previous participation restrict my ability to travel to Canada in the future?

A: No. The new policy of two one-year participation periods is not being implemented retroactively. So even if you have previously participated in the IEC, you will still be able to participate twice, assuming you can demonstrate eligibility to do so. Please note this only applies to those who participated prior to the 2011 initiative.

Therefore I am assuming anyone that came to Canada on IEC visa prior to 2011, they will write that off. ???

My girlfriends has been in Canada on BUNAC April 09 - 2010. And she is currently here now which will expire in May 2013.

As always, would be good to get a second opinion.

Yeah its a confusing way of phrasing things. My situation is that I applied in 2010 but I arrived on bunac in 2011. Not sure if that would count. I tried emailing thm last week but noone got back to me. Would love to know before Thursday so I can apply or not!

I noticed today that I can no longer find that question and answer regarding repeat participation for those with visas prior to 2011. It was on ther yesterday/this morning and got taken off today. Does anyone know if this means that they've changed it since they've processed the first 1000 applicants or it they just took that off of the most frequently asked questions because its not a question that they've been getting? I'm curious because my boyfriend has had two visas but one was before 2011 and I want to make sure he can come back to Canada on the third one because as of right now with him having had to leave, we don't qualify as common law.

I am not sure if that applies, but just to mention: your bf can stay with you on a tourist visa ( would not be allowed to work etc, but at least you could be together) to get the 12 months to be able to apply as commonlaw. If he can get in Canada on a tourist visa, then he can extend it until you have the 12 months living together to be able to qualify as CL. If he has left not too long ago ( like 2 or 3 weeks), you might be able to "patch together" the previous months and then when he comes back. His living Canada would be considered as a visit and thus not breaking the cohabitation.
Good luck,
Sweden

Yeah that question has disappeared. How strange. I think all three of us are in the same boat here.

My girlfriend who we are in process of common law sponsorship came on her first Bunac (IEC) visa from April 2009 - April 2010 and is here now in Canada from May 2012 - 2013.

I think we are just going to apply and the worst that happens is you lose £100 for trying.

Yeah they did remove it eh? That's really strange. What's going on I wonder? I wish there was a number to call as they simply haven't answered my email. Hmm. Still have until the 25th though to find out. Maybe you guys can try emailing them also. Who knows?

I really hope I can!

Yes! it will be a case of fastest finger first! :D

We were about 25 minutes off missing the last lot. We had them all filled in and we went back to submit and the button had disappeared. ???

Once the forms are validated and saved, you hit submit, you should then get a WTN number and continue on paying the fee and uploading and submitting other forms through MyCIC account and then it's just another waiting game once all finished.
