Appreciate if anyone can let me know how to get an International Driving License from Abu Dhabi (UAE)? I would like to rent a car in Toronto for the first few weeks of my stay and I guess international license is a must.

Appreciate your response and any other related details regarding hiring a car on rent, thanks in advance.

Re: IDP in UAE? Please advice

Ok, so I searched on the internet and found the answer :) Details are provided below. However, would appreciate if anyone would like to add a comment regarding his/her experience of renting a car in Toronto?

International driving licences or International Driving Permits (IDP) as they are commonly known are necessary for UAE nationals and residents who wish to drive while staying abroad. Automobile & Touring Club of the United Arab Emirates (ATCUAE) is the only authorised agency in the country to issue international driving licences. The following documents are needed for issuing an international driving licence:
1.Passport Copy
2.Valid UAE driving licence
3.2 passport size photographs
Applicants can visit any of the ATCUAE offices or the Emirates Post Offices across the country and apply for an international licence after paying the fee of AED 150.

1) Documents:
a) Photocopy of your UAE license, front AND back.
b) Photocopy of your passport ID and information page
c) Photocopy of your residence visa

2) Two (2) passport-sized photographs

3) Fee: AED140

4) Fill out the form at the post office. They write in your details to the booklet on the spot. Takes less than 10 minutes.

Also note: The Khalifa City post office closes at 3PM officially, but 2:45PM for all practical purposes.

Cheers.
