Hi guys,

A few people had pinged me having questions about ICT. Just wanted to summarize about my experience and timeline.

So, I was working for a company in the USA. Since I didn't get my H1B petition picked in the lottery I had to apply for ICT to the company in Canada. I applied it through my company's attorney.. the documents he requested were my resume, reference letters to state my skills and also my job description. The attorney also needed a letter from FBI ie., a police clearance certificate from both the USA and India (as I am a citizen of India) The police clearance certificate from The FBI takes about 13-15 weeks to get processed where as the one in India takes about 3 weeks. They did not request any medicals for me.. The timeline for my application was exactly 3 months.. I applied it on October 28th and i got my passport request on January 29th. I sent them my passport on the first week of February and I received the next week itself.

Thanks a lot for your detailed reply with dates included from initial stage to stamping, i read all your other post and have the following questions. I will appreciate it if you can help me.

1) Since i am in India, do i need to also get Police clearance? is there any specific process to get this done or does it depend on how influential and how good we know ppl in police dept?

2) where to get reference letters from ? is it from ex companies ?

3) So if i understand correctly , once all documents are ready(PCC and other docs from company) the process time is still 3 months .

4) on what visa did your spouse travel to Canada ? from your experience which visa do you suggest to go for ?

thank you in advance

Yes you need to get a police clearance certificate from India.. You first need to go to a local police station and tell them you need a PCC, they would give you a letter where you will have to submit it to the vommissioner's office showing them your passport and also sometime your offer letter from Canada.. Take some passport size photographs too.. They would ask you fill a form and you will have to pay a chalan.. Submit that to your local police station and they will go through ur records and submit that to the commissioner's office.. Later on you can pick up ur PCC..
More reference letters, the better it is for you.. Get some reference letters from ur mangers from the company you are working now and some letters from ur previous companies.. That should work..
Yes, if you have all your documents ready it would take about 3 months..
SOWP - spouse open work permit is the best if you are trying to bring over ur spouse to Canada..

As a Indian Citizen you need a VISA (better a multy-entry one), in addition to your WP.

eTA doesn't apply for Indian citizens

Could you please elaborate on the letter you've received. Did u get this letter along with the stamped passport and if yes, what does it say. I received a request to submit my passport (ICT WP) and was wondering what could that letter be..
