You can't "move" to Canada without some kind of visa / authorization.

Based on the information you have provided, is sounds like the most realistic option is for your girlfriend to sponsor you for permanent residency through the family class sponsorship program. In order to qualify to sponsor you, the two of you must either be married or common law (common law means that you have lived together at the same physical address for at least one full year).

Applying for a WP while visiting in Canada

Hi scylla,

I need clarification on applying for a WP while visiting in Canada. I am a US permanent resident. If I find employment (professional) while visiting in Canada, and I apply for a WP

1. If the WP is approved, would I need to exit Canada first to receive it for any reason, would it be mailed or would I need to pick it up in person at the immigration office in Canada?

2. How hard is it for WP to be approved for US residents visiting in Canada who find work?

3. True/False, after two years of working in Canada, can I apply for a PR? And I would have to probably surrender my US PR card if I get the Canadian PR, or have the option of either one.

Thanks

1) You can either mail it it or go to the border. Much faster to go to the border.
2) It shouldn't be too difficult to get a work permit approved. However to get a work permit you need a job offer from an employer. Expect it to be extremely difficult to find an employer will to give you a job offer.
3) False. There is no guarantee you will qualify for PR after working in Canada for two years. Depends on the skill level of your job and it also might depend where (which province) you are working. No - you don't have to give up your green card.

Thank you Scylla, just for further clarification-

1. I meant when the WP is approved, can it be mailed to my residing addrs in Canada? Is that an option? I know picking it up in person from the border is much faster like you said, but I would like to know if I can also receive it by mail from immigration.
