Yes you can and you should.. BUT

->It's not legal, with that being said, the only checkpoint you will have to pass is the airport immigration officer, this person you will have to be assured you are not there to seek employment or jobs at all. After that you're home free, but do avoid conflicts with anybody and law;

->Let's say you get a job there, you can:
a) start working illegally there if the company doesn't check for your papers and allows it (Don't do this unless you're desperate);
b) Now that you have you're job, you have to make sure the boss / the company is willing to write a LMO for you, this is a letter that states they need you as a worker there and no other Canadian citizen can fill that position;
Option B seems sweet... but The LMO takes time, has costs... that the person who is hiring you will have to endure... my advice for this, offer yourself to cover this costs, saying you would pay him/her/them the costs.

If option B was successful for you, be prepared now for the HARD part, the work permit application:
1st - Leave Canada because this process is going to take several months;
2nd - Start working on you're application, gather all the documents they ask for, you probably will have to translate some documents into English, this has to be done at an official translator;
3rd -Wait...Wait...Wait...
4th - Work Permit DENIED/ACCEPTED, if denied they will tell you what you were missing or what you did wrong, if accepted you're good to go. I believe you will get a paper that says you're work permit has been accepted, however the work permit itself you will only get it at the arrival in the airport in Canada.

Wish you good luck friend, and if you need more help try and provide more information about yourself like education, age, job you're seeking, etc.

thank u for helping me.
my name is john michael pajanel I'm Information technology graduate and Professional care giver graduate. I'm currently working here in cambodia as a Quality Control supervisor for garments company. I'm seeking any job that will fit in my profession and and I have been work in the philppines as a warehouse worker. and
I can't believe this was so complicated. so meaning to say releasing of working permit will take a long time? so if I stay in canada for 1 month that will be unsuficient time cos it takes long time to releasing the working permit. and any idea how much the cost of LMO if I purchase it to a person?

what if I have a friend that will provide me an invitation letter? how long it will allow me to stay in canada?

thank u for answering my question god bless

You cannot purchase an LMO. It is applied for by an employer based in Canada.

You cannot apply from inside canada for a work permit unless you are already there on some existing form of work / study visa.

Often companies post adds (even on this forum) for positions where they already have gotten LMOs (need to fill names of employees latter) and are recruiting. Just yesterday i saw a post listing 30 or so jobs on this very forum. At times there are scams involved too asking you to pay a lot of money, so you better be careful.

However, those jobs asked for resumes and are pursing candidates. So you might as well apply and get through.

A friend can only provide invitation letter for a visit visa which allows you to stay in canada for six months. However, CIC evaluates a lot of factors to determine if you would not stay in Canada illegally and is notorious for rejecting visit visas if they suspect so.

Following was the thread listing jobs

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/open-lmo-positions-apply-with-resume-t177390.0.html

P.S. i am not certifying their credibility or any thing, but they looked genuine and often are. The usual rule of thumb is, if any one is asking for money to get you a job, they probably are a scam, else not.

No - you can't apply for a work permit at the port of entry. You must apply in advance of coming to Canada since you are not visa exempt.

Can I apply for a work permit from inside Canada?

Only in some cases. You can only apply for a work permit from inside Canada if:

you, your spouse or parents have a valid study or work permit,
you have a work permit for one job but want to apply for a work permit for a different job,
you have a temporary resident permit that is valid for six months or more, or
you are in Canada because you have already applied for permanent residence from inside Canada. You will have to pass certain stages in the main application process before you can be eligible for a work permit.
There are other requirements as well.

If you are already in Canada as a visitor, you may not apply within Canada. You must apply for a work permit at a Canadian visa office:

responsible for the country where you live,
responsible for the country you are a citizen of, or
at a Canadian embassy or consulate in the United States of America.
You may be asked to go for an in-person interview at that office. If so, make sure you have all the documents you need to enter that country.

John, I don't think so, cause i think the only place they give you the work permit card is on the airport, now imagine you do apply online while you're in Canada and get accepted, you will have to go to the airport and ask if you could you're work permit... I think the authorities there would find this very awkward and maybe even arrest you and kick you out of the country, with that said, in theory one could apply for the work permit inside Canada online, and when you got the application accepted you would have to leave Canada and comeback as fast as possible to get you're work permit, i heard some people do go to Buffalo (USA) to leave Canada and then comeback, but i can't point you any tips in that sense, so just to be safe, do the whole application process in your home country.

ADVICE: While you're in Canada looking for job, explore, meet and do as much as possible. Also find out if you will need an English assessment for the work permit, there are official exams like IELTS and TOEFL that are used to evaluate you're English skills, they are paid and have to be scheduled online. If you don't know if you need this, I still recommend doing it cause it's always a bonus on your application... the highest requirement i've seen being asked by CIC for an English level was a TOEFL score of 80 (you can translate this online to IELTS score if you want to). From my experience TOEFL is quite doable, i did mine couple months ago and scored 103 out of 120 and i just studied 1 hour or less.

If you are already in Canada, then it is impossible to activate your work permit by going to an airport. You can only activate your work permit at an airport if you fly into Canada from an international destination.

It is however often possible to drive to a land border crossing (Canada/US) to activate your work permit by "flagpoling". Many people do this and it's a perfectly acceptable way to activate a work visa provided you meet the requirements cee12345 outlined above.
