Hello All,

I got my permanent resident in Dec 2008 (expire in Dec 2013)and i stayed in Canada for 1 year and 7 months .
Due to Family issues back home , I left Canada after that time and didn't came back .
I got married newly and I am planning to go with My wife to Canada .

1- who should I inform in Canada about my newly status as married person ?
2- how to get a Visa for My wife ? will it be a tourist visa for short time , or Can she apply for permanent resident?
3- what will happen to my status as permenant resident especially that I stayed that longer time outside Canada ?
4- Is it possible to renew my permanent resident card when it expires and based on what criterias ?

thank you for your help ./

Best Regards,
Joe

1. No - you don't need to inform anyone.
2. You will apply to sponsor your wife for a permanent residence visa through the spousal sponsorship program stream. Note that since you are a PR (and not a citizen), you must be living in Canada in order to qualify to sponsor your wife and must continue living in Canada until her application processing is complete and her PR visa is approved. Short visits (2-3 weeks) out of Canada are OK. Anything longer and you'll risk having the application rejected due to lack of residency in Canada.
3. You must live in Canada two out of every five rolling years to maintain your PR status. This means that you should return to Canada soon so that you can accumulate another 5 months of residency.
4. See above. To renew your PR card, you must have lived in Canada two out of the last five years.

I am in the same boat, became PR in 2008. Stayed in Canada for 15 months after receiving PR. Now, planning to go back to Canada after marriage (have been outside Canada for more than 2 years now). Want to apply for spousal sponsorship. Does the sponsor have to complete complete 2yrs of 5yrs stay in order to sponsor??? or can the sponsor go ahead and apply for outland application while the term of 2yrs out of 5yrs is still not satisfied??

Thanks

no,you only need to be here in Canada in order for you to sponsor your wife, they will only check your 2 years of residency when you apply to renew your PR card
