Sydney received my CEC app on the 22nd. I didn't know about the changes announced on 8th November until this weekend.

I'm kinda worried my NOC will result in my application being rejected. I put down 6511 as my "official" job title falls under that, however, I'm part of a management team at my place of work. My job is basically a 0631 code in all but name.

Really stupid on my part, I didn't research properly before applying and just assumed my job would meet the required 'skill level' :(

You cannot do anything now but wait. If the application is going to be returned you can try to apply under the different NOC. If you get AOR, I would suggest to withdraw the application and re-submit with the 0631 code.

I don't see how this person ever will get AOR. The NOC code he\she used is not in the category (0,A or B) which is required by the CEC program.
Unless he\she posted in the wrong area of this forum, it's a guaranteed fail?

According to the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC), skilled work experience means:

Managerial jobs (NOC skill type 0)
Professional jobs (NOC skill type A)
Technical jobs and skilled trades (NOC skill type B)

You must have at least 12 months of full-time, or an equal amount in part-time, skilled work experience. Full-time work means at least 30 hours of paid work per week.

My duties and responsibilities is more in line with 0631 than 6511. I'm a manager first and foremost, I interview, train, hire & fire. How would I go about changing my NOC number? Would I be better just withdrawing my application and starting again? If so, how do I do that?

I believe you've to wait until they return the application to you, your job title is not as important as the job duties. Just make sure you got a reference letter that describes your job duties (well follow the instruction CIC gave you about what your reference letter should include)

Thanks.

My girlfriend called them and they said I can send a letter explaining the situation and they will attach it to my file. the only problem is I will be waiting a while for AOR and therefore don't have a UCI yet...

I want to point you to my original reply - there is nothing you can do now but WAIT! If your application returned, re-submit with different NOC code. If it is not returned, and you will get your AOR (which is unlikely) - ask to withdraw it. 3rd time?

I appreciate your advice. However, if I choose to wait (roughly 2 months?) and then quickly re-apply, which would then result in waiting another 2 months, that brings me very close to the end of my current work permit. The CIC themselves advised me to send a letter from myself with an explanation, along with a signed letter from my General Manager outlining my exact responsibilities & duties in relation to the revised NOC number.

In the past, when assessing the applications, CIC used to classify the least skilled NOC code out of possible selection (in cases where several NOC codes can match). Nowadays, when some of the NOC codes has become ineligible, do you think they will scrutinize less or more? Also, putting a non-eligible NOC on the application and ask to change it after the fact wouldn't make it for me if I were a VO.
The most favourable scenario I see for you now is that your application together with fees going to be returned to you as ineligible for processing. The least favourable is that you will get your AOR, will send your request for changing a NOC, will get under senior officer review and will be rejected after a year of processing.
Anyhow, you are the master of your application and can do as you see fit. Good luck!
