I sent the wrong form!

I just mailed my application then realised that I sent the Feb 2018 version of IMM0008, not the June 2018 version. I even checked if anything had updated and found the updated checklist but somehow missed the updated IMM0008. NOOOOOOO.

I've already got in touch with the mail office and they're going to try to intercept the package for me, so hopefully I get it back and can just put the correct form in and then mail it again.

However, if they can't save it, what's the best thing for me to do? Should I complete the correct form and mail that too, with a letter of explanation? I can't really see any downsides to that approach. Should I wait?

To make matters worse, we have tickets to fly in 60 days intending for me to enter under dual intent (I understand that there are risks with this and that it would be better if we had made the application earlier, but we didn't and my husband's job is coming to an end so he needs to go back to Canada and we want to go with him rather than be separated).

No point sending another form, they will either give you the opportunity to send the right one once they receive it or your package will come back.

Might be worth trying to find out what the difference in the versions of the form is. If it is not material, it will probably be OK - they can 'cut you some slack' especially if the change in the form is not of great importance and if it had only recently changed.

You will be fine to enter Canada as a visitor even if the app is returned.

That is probably what is gonna happen, if the change in the new form isn't that important. What happened to me was that CIC cut some slack for me on my PCC. The PCC I submitted was a bit (about 2 weeks) over 6 months prior to the date they received my application and CIC accepted it.

That's encouraging. I just went through the form to find the two new questions and they are:

"For this trip, will you use a passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan that includes your personal identification number?"
"For this trip, will you use a National Israeli passport?"

As a UK passport holder, I'm thinking this is one of those cases that they could cut me some slack. I hope!

From previous posts on this forum, I understand that they usually will let it slide. They have a non official "grace period" (I believe it's two weeks) where they will still accept outdated forms. So if the form was updated in June (usually the new version is available beginning of July) and you just sent in your application, you should be ok.
Unless the officer who opens your package is in a bad mood.
