Hi Everyone,

So I will explain my situation as this:

1. I studied in a university called Limkokwing University in Malaysia but I took an interior architecture program course offered by Curtin University, Australia at Limkokwing University, Malaysia that is.
2. My degree certificate is awarded by Curtin University from Australia and Transcrips and everthing. I even have a Curtin Studen I.D. and all.
3. When I applied for ECA I did mention in the notes below that my program was offered by Curtin Unversity Australia but collaborated with Limkokwing University in Malaysia. And I contacted Curtin and they mailed my certificates and everthing to IQAS and I received the ECA already. In it they mentioned the country as Australia.
4. So now I am confused in my CIC application it is required to mention the country of study and the city of study. Do I put it as Australia and Perth to follow the ECA and my certificate? or do I put it as Malaysia because this is where I actually studied. If I put it as Australia to follow the ECA and my certificate I also can't provide a police clearance later because I have never been there either.

I'm very confused. Anyone had a similar issue?

As per my understanding you need to put Malaysia and explain the whole thing in LOE. If you mention Australia, then they'll expect PCC from Australia for sure and would cancel if you haven't submitted one

I think that's what I will do,. Thank you :).. I have also put the word (by correspondence) next to the institution name as i found out it's what I should do in a similar situation. I will update this post if anything comes up to help others too.

I'm facing this same issue currently as I completed a program (offered by an university in Ireland) in my own country. Ireland university will be sending the transcripts directly. Im currently stuck at getting my creds. validated by WES as I'm not sure how to enter them.

Can you please tell me how you entered your credentials in Step 3. What did you pick for "Country of Education" section? your local one or the Australian one?

Hello Tristonz,

The thing is I found different opinions on this forum.. unfortunately most people didn't get back to the subject and reply on whether answering by putting their actual country of study or the country of the institution worked or not.
I updated my profile yesterday and decided to put the country where I actually study which is Malaysia. And next to the institution name I put (by correspondence) and I will explain later in an LOE (if I get and ITA I hope) that the country, Australia, mentioned on my ECA is the address of the institution however I took the program in a different country. I hope this is the right way.

  • Applicants are instructed to indicate that their education was completed by correspondence by typing in brackets {by correspondence} on the same line as the education institution name found in the Education Background Information tab of GCMS. The discretion remains with the officer to decide if a police certificate is required for the country of the education institution

of course it's still not clear whether to put the country and city of the university or where I actually studied. But I'm hoping by putting (by correspondence) and with an LOE letter it will be clear.

Thank you for your quick reply.
I think in your reply, you were referring to your "Express Entry Profile" right?
Where i am currently stuck is with getting my Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) from WES.
What country did you pick as your country of education when completing your application for IQAS?

Oh I see.. Ok I have just checked my IQAS Application..
At institution name this is exactly how I wrote:
Curtin University, Australia in Collaboration with LUCT.

At Country I put Malaysia.
and I actually left this remark at the notes section:
My Bachelor Degree in Interior Architecture was collaborated between Limkokwing University and Curtin University, but was awarded by Curtin University. I have included the transcripts from both institutions and have as well requested both institutions to mail you their official copies of transcripts and reports.

I got my ECA with country listed as Australia though.

Dear San Jamous,
I know this post is one year old, but it would be really helpful to get your reply.
In your case, Has the WES labelled Limkokwing University as "Recognized University" or "Unrecognized University"?
I have done my degree from an International Branch Campus (IBC) moderated by Limkokwing University. The certificate came from Limkokwing University, Malaysia.

hello everyone,

i have received my ITA, and i have to submit the documents within 30 days now,

i have a question, my masters degree is through a distance learning program(DLP), while pursuing masters through DLP, i was permanently employed in a company. how should i explain these two years of job and study in the last 10 years history form?

should i attach a Letter of Explanation (LOE) with my documents and explain the whole scenario, as the university is in a different city and i was employed in a different city? as it was a distance learning program?

will they count this experience as full time employment or this will be considered as study period? or the experience and degree both will be valid as it was outside Canada

Can someone please explain this

1. You can add your study and work as two separate entries in your history.
2. Yes, you can write that in your LOE. It won't cause any problem.
3. Yes, it will be counted as valid work experience as long as the experience and education is non Canadian.

Thanks for the response ,

So you mean to say will it be two separate entries for the same period ?

Also , can you please explain how Do we explain a period in last 10 years where I was not doing anything practically ? Like neither studying nor working, basically I was preparing for a university admission so it took more than an year . Can I write “nothing” or “no activity” and does writing this leaves a negative impression on visa officer,.
