Dear All,

I came in Canada for Instrumentation Engineering Technician diploma (2 Years) which I finished on June 5th, 2015. I applied for my work permit and successfully approved for 3 year. Now, I got admission from Ryerson university for Master of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering. My question is if I apply for my study permit, what will happen to my work permit? I am so confused right now. But I am definitely going for Ryerson's master no matter what happens. Do I have to give back my work permit to CIC?

Any advice will be really appreciable.

Thanks

Im assuming your work permit is a Post graduate work permit? I know they only issue you that work permit once. I know of a friend that got it worked one year and left for one year and she had one year left to come back and work.

How long is the ryerson program?

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your reply. My program in ryerson is for 1 year (full time). If I apply for study permit, then what will happen to the work permit?

Really appreciate that you took the time for replying to the question.

I don't think they would cancel your study permit, i am not too sure to be honest but I think you would lose one year if back to school.

Actually try calling immigration, I know you were frustrated with them . or re post this but in your subject put what happens if I hold a PGWP but applying for study permit.

I think you don't need to worry about.

Your WP is valid, that's OK.
You can apply por a Student Permit, too.

I don't know the details of your WP but for Temporary workers with WP askin for Student Permit doesn't cancel your WP

Dear All,

I appreciate the time you took for answering my question. I would like to clear this issue. I talked with CIC and here is the thing. "In the case when an individual holds 2 permit at the same time, always the latest counts. Which means, right now I am holding a PGWP which is valid or 3 years. If I get my study permit for 1 year, then I won't be able to work on that period of time (as long the study permit is issued). When I am graduated r done with my studies, if I still have time on my work permit I can work by using that. There is no forfeiting of my PGWP. PGWP is totally separate application which I deserve after I finish my studies in Canada. I hope it clears out everything.

Thanks

Thanks for share CIC answer.

After new Student Permit finish in 1 year it's no longer valid so PGWP will be valid?

I don't know the legal details but as long you keep your PGWP you should be able to use it.

Hi,

You are right Gregor.Samsa. After I finish my 1 year of study permit and at that time if I still have time on my work permit I can use it without any issue.
