I missed my citizenship test scheduled on 27/11/2015. I am given one month to contact CIC. Would calling CIC call centre count as a contact within the time limit? Otherwise, the online contact form will be a good prrof of contacting CIC within the time limit? There is no time for a letter to reach on or before 26/12/2015 given the xmas leave. I will appreciate some hints on that.
The invitation letter is supposed to tell how to provide reason for no show but it actually does not.

You might consider immediately sending a letter by courier next day delivery. That's best way your letter can reach the CIC offices immediately and you will be spared from any adverse consequences. Failing which your application will be considered as abandoned.

Hi Folks,

Still need specific response for the following if you can please:

1. Can I deliver the letter in person as the office is just one stop from my address?
2. Will sending my reason in advance using case specific enquiry count as having made the contact on time? Letter will follow any way but may reach after Christhmas.
3. Will advising my reason in advance through the call centre count as having made the contact on time? Letter will follow any way but may reach after Christhmas.
4. If the letter is sent "post-marked" before lapse of 30 days ending on 26/12/2015, but actually reach on 27/12/2015 after 30 days which will be acceptable?

I will highly appreciate point by point response if anyone can help please.

That's odd. As I remember, if you miss the Citizenship test it is automatically re-scheduled. But maybe that's just Montreal Office.

All you can do is send the letter asap by mail and also call them right away (call center can make a note on your file but i would still send the letter as well) . In person is usually not accepted. If letter is post marked today , thats what typically counts but dont delay.

I think you can deliver in person.

When i was issued RQ during the test, the officer told me that i can send documents by mail, or drop it at gate to the Guard. I did the drop-in, and i could see they received documents in my ATIP report.

Further to add, My office was Surrey, i don't know if they have different rules with different offices.

Thanks All for your help.

This question is for Smile Canada, from your time line, I note that you were asked for entry / exit from US, would they normally make such request for the country you visted the most?

My husband missed his first test appointment as well as he was working in Northern Alberta and couldn't make it back to BC for the appointment. He just called and explained the situation and they issued a new test date.

Nope, if you have all entries and exits stamped on your passport then they usually don't ask . In my case as i travel frequently to US via land borders. They don't put physical stamps at land borders, so CIC doesn't have way to verify my entry exits and thus they asked for report.

Considering the Christmas holidays and chaotic way of CIC, there are chances that your hand delivered letter might be misplaced or did not reach the right people in time and you end up taking the blame. You dont have much time to take any chances.

Its just a suggestion, minimize any unwanted risks, courier can get you the CIC receipt / time stamp to back you up, if required later.

Dear Smile Canada,

In my case, I lost my passport for the 4-years quaifying period, do you think CBSA report will be sufficient or I will be asked for reports from other countries.

Losing your passport for the qualifying 4 year period is a problem for CIC. Did you report it missing to the police? You will likely be put on a non-routine process due to having no passport to show proof of actual physical presence.

Yep, they don't like this. My wife had a passport gap, around 16 months, and was questioned extensively even though my passport also indicated no traveling outside of Canada. She had an expired passport for part of the 4-year qualifying period before the gap, and an active passport for the last 3 months. We explained that to get a passport she had to visit the consulate in Vancouver in person, and we hadn't bothered to do it until we were actually ready to travel; and it took more than a month for a decision to be made on her file. This is in a situation where they could presumably check rather easily if she had a green card or not (a possibility, since I'm an American), given information sharing. I don't know if they checked with Thailand to see if she had had a different passport for those 16 months, or even if they can.

I imagine that it would be much more difficult if she had come without any passport at all.

Not having your passport during the qualifying period is a big red flag. It will likely cause you delays

Hi Nope,

Can you please expand on what happened in your wife case to make up for the missing 16 months? What did CIC ask for to be satisfied?
