I live in Borno State,Nigeria,I wish to move to Canada and seek asylum.

I am married with 5 kids. We all in Maiduguri, as the world is aware our state has been distroyed by the terrorists Boko Haram. Living here is quite scary. I want to move to Canada and seek better life for me and the kids. Husby is not yet ready to leave. But he has agreed for us to go ahead.

Any advice will do.
Kindly assist me with your knowledge pls.

You really have two options if you want to claim asylum. The first is to obtain tourist visas to Canada and then claim asylum when you arrive in Canada. To be approved for a tourist visa, you will have to demonstrate that you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans on remaining in Canada long term - and also show you have sufficient funds to pay for your trip to Canada. The second option is to move out of Nigeria and to a different country. Once you are in that country, you will need to be officially recognized as refugees by UNHCR or a similar referral organization before you can qualify for resettlement in Canada.

It is very difficult getting the Canadian visa here in Nigeria.
And as for the second option,moving around with 13,12,6,4 and 2 year olds is very hard and financially stressful.

What should I do?

Unfortunately those are really your only two options if you wish to claim asylum. You would either need to get a TRV and travel to Canada - or move outside of Nigeria.

If this isn't possible, you can look into qualifying and applying for permanent residency through one of Canada's economic streams like Federal Skilled Worker / Express Entry. You can find detailed information about these programs here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp

For Federal Skilled Worker / Express Entry, you will need to have funds of around $33,000 in Canadian dollars to be accepted.

Can't you move to another part of the country were you can be safe? Getting a TRV to Canada from Nigeria would take a lot which I am not sure you would be able to handle in terms of supporting documents.

What happen if the OP leave the country? How long does it take to get to be recognized by the UNHCR? or where they can stay until they can qualify for the resettlement in Canada.

To the best of my knowledge there's no fixed processing time for being recognized by UNHCR - it's really on a case by case basis. And of course it's always possible UNHCR may say someone does not fit the criteria of a refugee. Where a person stays is really up to them to determine. Housing isn't provided. Some countries do have refugee camps - of course these are far from ideal living situations.

I totally agree with that, but dont you guys think that in the current circumstances they will not be getting any asylum anyway?
