Hi, I just got my one year PGOWP, I am presently working full time as Web developer (40hrs/week). My question is, Can I apply for PR if I complete the total of 1560 hrs/year in 9 months. If not, what should I do to extend my work permit.

No, it has to be 12 calendar months. "Work experience must be acquired over a period of at least one year; work in excess of 30 hours per week over a shorter period cannot compensate for any shorter overall period of experience" (OP 25a).

In other words, if you're calculating to 1,560 hours, you cannot count more than 30hr/week (30 x 52 = 1,560).

In that case, what are my options? What should I do when my work permit expires?

You can't extend your PGWP? It goes up to 3 years depending on duration of studies. How long was your duration of studies?

The duration of my course was one year.

Also, Does it have to be one year? I mean like 12 months exact, what if its 11 month and one week?

As previously stated, you cannot apply before the duration of 12 months, and that the least experience CIC recommends for applying through CEC, no matter how many hours you work per week (full time requires at least 30).

Of course you can always submit your application, but it most likely lead to rejection, one of the fundamental requirements they have will not have been met.

Thank you for the reply. Now, I want to know; what should I do to stay in canada? I mean, what other options do I have?

You could check the provincial programs, you might find that some require less experience in Canada, before becoming eligible for CEC (I have no knowledge on that one, I guess Manitoba/Alberta/Sask might have easier rules)

There is a section here on PNPs, you could try that..

Also, maybe if you could get a positive LMIA, through your employer, you could get a "closed" WP, work only for him and after you have more experience, apply for CEC (don't know the possibilities of LMIA resulting positive on that case)

Maybe more experienced members can help more, and probably visit some immigration consultant/offices to get some input as well

Most provinces have a master's stream for a provincial nominee program. You should look into the PM stream for your province and check if you are eligible. Apart from that LMIA is the only other option for you. Best of luck!

I have a question here.

I know that for LMIA/LMO the process should start 6 months before my PGOWP expires. Now the company that I am working for has already hired me .. should they have to show that they advertised, and interviewed etc when applying for LMIA/LMO or they can show that I have been working for them for all this while and I am good, what not... So, we wanna keep him... how is the process? Please help me here understand the rules as I want to be safe from misguidance by lawyers.

I think they still have to show evidence of trying to hire a Canadian person, ie. advertisement etc. This is an LMIA/LMO application requirement.

Then basically I am at dead end, as I don't have any option to extend my work permit.. I doubt if my company can do the LMO thing for me, even if they do.. what about the chances of approval.. Should I move to other province?
