Hello everyone. I have a few questions about extending my study permit. So I started my welding course at Sheridan college in Brampton Ontario in January 2018. I’m currently still in school with just 2 weeks left of school. Back in semester 1 I had to withdraw from one class so that I didn’t receive an F on my academic record. So now I have to extend my permit because the class wasn’t available until this upcoming September. Is this a legitimate reason to extend my permit? Also for my proof of funds how much money should I show for an extension of 3 or 4 months? I live with my common law partner of almost 2 years rent free btw. Also after withdrawing from that one class I still remained full time for both semesters with a pretty good gpa.

Yes failing classes is a common reason for needing to extend a study permit. When does your permit end? You should really have started the process already if your study permit ends soon so you know you can study next semester. It takes a while to get a response. Hard to say how much you need to show but you need to showing living expenses even though you have been receiving free rent. I would imagine tuition +$5000 would be a safe amount for a 1 semester extension but more is always better.

My permit expires December 3rd. I figured I’d apply next month is that ok? Btw I have 3,200 Canadian dollars that my parents have given me for expenses

Applying as soon as possible would be best unless your semesters ends before December 3rd. I think you should get an extension but your savings are on the low side and I'm not sure how that will be interpreted. Wouldn't be great if you almost finish the semester and then get denied. Actually not sure what would be better apply now or apply in Sept/Oct when they might think the semester is almost over so lets approve it because he's almost done. You'll have to decide what to do.

I also have support from my parents, and my girlfriend and her parents. I could always apply at the border like I did last time to get my study permit. What do you think?

Yes the border is probably a good idea. I would bring your marks from the past 2 terms, your registration for this term, a copy of your bank statement, a letter from you gfs parents saying they are letting you stay with them rent are and a letter from your parens explaining they will support you financially if you need more money. You can then explain that you had to withdraw from one class and it was only available in September. I don't think you should have a problem. Easier at the border and you can also explain in person.
