I received an approval for PR for Canada as a skilled worker in May 2009 and I inteded to complete my stay in UK and travel to Canada around October 2009 in order to settle. My fiance and I decided to marry and registered our marriage on 15 of August. My husband is British and we intended to travel to Canada for our honeymoon and also to explore career options for both of us. However on arrival at airport we were advised that the PR could not be activated since my status had changed from single to married. They took all the papers confirming my PR status. All I have at the moment an immigration visa in my passport.

I wrote to the Canadian embassy but they don't give a sufficient response. They keep saying that I need to apply for sponsorship for my husband but this is not the case. All we want at the moment is to get my Permanent Residency card and then when we decide to settle down there I will apply for sponsorship.

Can anybody advise what to do?

Dear safi !
What I have learnt from this forum is that in your case you have to re-submit your main application forms of you and your spouse to concerned CHC alongwith a covering letter explaining the change in your status,PCC of your spouse, required funds evidence for 2 persons and other required docs. The concerned local CHC would cancell your previuos visa and would re-issue the visa to both of you after completion of formalities.

I think you should have stayed in the UK until your husband got included in your FSW application, e.g. do medical, criminal check and get his PR and then the both of you could have come to Canada.

I suggest you speak with an immigration lawyer.

you have to update your local embassy of any status change,in ur case u should have ideally updated embassy that u r now married while u were in UK,if u would have updated ur status change while in UK,u had to re-subiit ur Stamped Passport back to local embassy and then ur husband need to undergo medical and crimincal checks, and then embassy ask for ur passport and ur huband's ,it doesnt matter whether u wanna travel alone or with ur husband,u must inform embassy of ur status change and follow the procedure i have described above

Safi, if i get you right have you landed without informing CHC of your status change?
If yes, there is a danger because this can lead to your removal from canada and a 2year ban due to misrepresentation. If you check the letter that accompanied your PR visa and COPR, CHC told you clearly that you must report any chnages (like family composition as in marriage) before laanding even after your visa has been issued. All they willl do is to cancel the previous visa and re-issue a new one after doing criminal check, medical, etc for your spouse
If you are yet to land quickly write to the CHC responsible for your application to inform them that your status has changed.
I just HOPE you are yet to land!
