I am a PhD student in Canada, and I have completed one semester. Now I feel that this program is not for me. I want to quit this program.

My girlfriend is also student in Canada, and we are getting married in january end. I am thinking to apply for dependent visa based on her status in Canada. Is it a good idea? Will it create some problem in future? and what are the chances of getting approved, If I convert my status from student to dependent.

What happen if they reject my application? Will I lost my student visa too?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Hi,

1. You can apply under "Restoration of Status" to restore your status as a student within 3 months of losing your study permit status.

2. There is absolutely NO surety of restoration.

Thanks Enfield

So, Will I loose my study permit, as soon as I apply for work permit?

Hi,

No. You shall automatically lose your study permit status only after the issuance of work permit.

hey how much it costs to marry there?

i think married status is useful in getting P.R. .... is it ? ?

Married status is only useful in getting PR if your girlfriend qualifies to apply. Then she can apply for you too. If you get married, you can apply for an open work permit as the spouse of an international student. If it is approved, your study permit becomes invalid. Once your girlfriend graduates and gets a post graduate work permit, you might have to look for another solution. Spouses of students and spouses of skilled TFW's can get open work permits but there is nothing by CIC that says that spouses of people on PGWP's can get an open work permit so it is a hit and miss. Some people have lost their OWP after their spouse graduated. If that were to happen to you, the only way to stay would be to get an LMO from your employer and get your own WP.
