I am (may) short of one point. Please help me

I sent my application in buffalo office. They asked me to do IELTS. And I did. My result is : Listening 7, Speaking 6.5, Reading 6 and Writing 6. The current IELTS result makes 10 points in my immigration file. And I am short of one point. I have not send them the result yet.

I also claimed 3 points in my spouse Adaptability. If I include those 3 points that makes 69 points in my application. But I may not get the adaptability points. The problem is as:

My spouse has 12 years of full time study in school (10 years) and college (2 years) in Pakistan. But in her college final exam (held after two years of study) she was failed in English. I attached her school certificate and the college provisional result card in my immigration file. In Pakistan, a college study is not considered completed until a candidate pass all the subjects. In this situation they (CIC) may consider 10 years of school education completion (she passed all subjects in 10 years school certificate) of my wife. And I may not get 3 points in this category.

If I get 7 in two modules of IELTS, then I do not need points from the spouse adaptability category.

Can any body suggest me in this matter? Should I repeat my IELTS exam.

Practice on the reading and writing. You should be able to gain significantly higher points in these two sections with practice. You can purchase practice material on-line... I'm sure.

Although myself I have long lasting experience in speaking, reading, writing, and communicating in English on daily basis since year 2000 (we use English at my home), I plan to practice the "test" to get a high score if I was asked.

Every test on this planet, regardless of the test taker, needs practice for the test itself and not the material being tested for to attain a high score.

Try to attain as much practice material as you can on this particular test. Do you have a deadline to submit test results? If not, practice for at least two-three weeks. Read as much as you can, write as much as you can. I speculate you can raise the scores for the reading and writing by at least 2 points.

Take it easy, practice, and good luck.

Hi.
I am short of 4 points too, because I got 5 on my IELTS! I was little dissapointed, but what to do?!
It means that I should repeat my test.

I have already made two attempts. For the next attempt, I need extra time from the Canadian consulate. The 120 days dead-line is expiring on 10th of July. Guys guide me advice what should I write to ask for the extra time. I could fail again to get the desired results in the next attempt. What is the safe way to ask them for the extra time? I may succeed on the 3rd or 4th attempt. Help me please

I am sure you can improve on your IELTS score. Practise more and listen/watch more of American radio/TV/Movies.

I scored L7.5 R8.0 S8.5 and W9.0.

I got my AOR on May 1st. Does anyody know if my file is not one of the backlogged files that must be processed under the new rule. My understanding was that those in the backlog did not get AOR.

Does having a new baby, job and address slow the process down? I applied to Buffalo and hoping to move to Canada next year if lucky.

If you applied after Feb 27th your application will be subject to the new rules which came into effect on that day

Is the date 27th February refers post marked of the application or issuance of the AOR.

All applications received prior to February 27, 2008, will be processed to a final decision on the merits of the application, according to the rules and regulations in place when they were submitted.

pbusa15, i wanna ask u that have u received any reply as i have the same situation i also got 66, have they accepted ur application, plz share ur experience.

Hello All,

I am not trying to discourage all of you guys who are one point short but if you are at 66, you are most likely to get refused. They have a rule in place to give only to 67 and above. I have not heard that they will give a grace point just so you can pass.

You all need to practice and give the test again and do it quick because the time is running out.

Don't get false hope and expectations but try to meet or better the bar as set by CIC. If you don't have the cutoff points, you need to do something about it to raise it. The easiest ( or most difficult ) step seems to be to raise your IELTS score. The only way to raise your score is by continuous practise exams available on the net or elsewhere. Just think of the money you spend on this as an investment for the betterment of your future
If the exception is made and cutoff is lowered to 66 then sooner or later you would have people clammering that they get 65 ( 1 short of 66 ) and so on. Hence i seriously doubt if any exception will be made if you don't make the mark. Good luck to all who need to raise their scores
