I´m on a Closed Work Permit, can I freelance for another country?

Hi all,

I´m on a pretty particular situation, details below:

- I´m on a closed Work Permit until September 15th. I quit the company I was working for due to stress.
- I have requested an extension of my Work Permit which will make it open (Bridging Open Work Permit). This should be done by mid October.
- I have also submitted my PR application, it is due on January.

Considering these things, I have been offer to work as a freelancer by a company out of Canada. Am I allowed to do so? Can I work whilst on my Closed Work Permit if the company I would be working for is foreign? Do I need to wait until I have an Open Work Permit, or that´s not relevant as I would be working for a foreign company?

You can do it provided the company has no Canadian customers / clients.

I´m assuming I need to pay income taxes in Canada, right?

Yes - you need to declare this income in your Canadian tax return.

Hi Jose,
Will you be travel in, and out of Canada while working as a freelancer for this company? And if this happen, is Jose travelling will affect his Closed Work Permit??
