Dear All
I have filed for my Work Permit and Dependent Visa for my Wife and Daughter which was approved by the Canadian High Commission-New Delhi. I have already completed my Medical Exam as i am applying for 3 Years. I am scheduled to travel by March 7th 2013.

Today we found out that my Wife is pregnant with our 2nd child. Now we are SO glad but at the same time confused. I am reaching out to you for your suggestions and inputs for my below questions.

1. I will be on Work Permit and my Wife will be on Dependent Visa. Are we eligible for any Health Insurance(TORONTO). If so can you please give me any link where i can dig into this. I know i will be covered by my Employers Health Insurance, though not sure if this will cover Maternity Cost

2. What could the average cost of Pregnancy in Toronto.

Regards
Praveen

Pre-Assessed..
According to http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_eligibility.aspx a foreign worker and their spouse are eligible for OHIP. However, there is a 3 month waiting period for coverage so you should have emergency and accident (travel) insurance for the first 3 months in case you have some emergency.

1. Most of the times the employer insurance will cover preganancy, but remember it is your responsibility to work with insurance to cover the costs. The hospital/clinic expects upfront payment if you do not have health card. You will have to work with you employers insurance company in claiming it back.
2. I am guessing we are talking some where between 12-20K depending on the type of delivery.
3. After 3 months of residency the gov provided health care will cover the pregnancy.
