Husband and wife citizenship

Hello Leon and PMM;
An applicant and his wife applied for citizenship together at the same time, my questiones are:
1-Who is considered the main applicant? Or there is no main applicant in citizenship application?
2-in case of CIC officers decide that the husband does not meet the citizenship requirements, what will be the status of the wife application? are both linked together? Or will she grant the citizenship regardless the husband's situation?

You responses would be greatly appreciated!

Applications for citizenship are assessed individually. There is no principal applicant.

how about minors rjessome? can either husband or wife apply on their behalf? what if for example, the husband is eligible for citizenship sooner than the wife, can the husband apply on behalf of the minor eventhough the child has not completed the residency requirement of 3years?

No one can apply for citizenship until they are eligible. So no, the father cannot apply for the citizenship of the children if they do not meet the eligibility requirements.

Correction: a minor do not have to fulfill residency requirement to apply for citizenship. If one of the parent has fulfilled residency requirement for citizenship, the child can be included in the application. However if neither parent has fulfilled the requirement for citizenship, child cannot apply until the parent fulfilled it.

In regard to your original question, although there is no principal applicant in citizenship, in my case I submitted the application together with my spouse's, and our application was processed together. We received file number together, test invitation together, and oath invitation together.

I have heard that other couples who did this, sending both application together, when the wife got RQ.'d, and the husband didn't, both application got on hold. So it is better that you applied separately if one of you did not fulfill the requirement.

Really? Thanks for correcting me. I obviously need to brush up on the citizenship requirements for minors! I haven't read them in over a year! Off to re-read eligibility for citizenship! :)

Again, in the case of adults, they are assessed individually not jointly. So if one withdraws it should have no effect on the other.
