Got an offer for Web Development program.Hello!
Is there anyone joining Humber college Lakeshore campus in sept 2019 for Financial Planning course?
Also looking for off-campus accommodation near the college.
Depending on your home country it could be more expensive to live in Canada. You must be willing to work, assuming you are getting spouse open work permit. Unless you have the financial resources, it is going to be difficult to manage a family on a part-time salary. Honestly, it's mostly financial, as the rent in Toronto is very expensive. Another thing is mostly to do with your children on a psychological basis, they will probably lose their childhood friends and will have to make friends, in a different country, and probably people who may not look like them. Also, the reverse will happen when you go back, unless you have plans of settling in Canada.Hey guys, my husband got accepted to Humber College - Lakeshore campus to pursue a 4yr bachelors degree in music starting September 2019. We have 2kids (ages 6 & 8) and due to the duration of the program we want to go to along with him. Any thoughts on pros and cons on the decision for all of us to go? We are in the process of applying for the visas but need some advice. Thanks

Let's not forget that it's a new experience for yourself as well, you may not be able to talk with your friends, depending on the time difference, and you will also have to make new friends as well. As someone who was born abroad, I have personal experience living in a country that is not my own, and hence I have strong opinions in that regard.
If someone is offering you a job, are they offering you a job based on your visa that you are going to get, or will they sponsor a work permit for you ?Hi Selvakk,
Thanks for the prompt response. We live in Jamaica and yes it is more expensive to live in Canada. I am willing to work, I decided to work the moment Humber was decided on seeing that my husband would not be working...at least not full time. I have arranged a job (with an insurance brokerage) and since the acceptance from Humber, I have contacted them to let them know if all goes well I will be coming to Canada this year and I will be taking up the offer. I am not sure if I should get something in writing to support this so please offer some advice on this.
I have been checking the rental cost in Toronto and it is frightening. I was advised to check on the outskirts as costs will be more affordable. The plan is to support my husband in fulfilling his dream so we can return and help him create wonders with his music. IF I find that we settle in nicely and the work environment is one that fosters a harmonious working space and gives me a feeling that I can be my best self AND the quality of life is good for my husband and kids then we would consider applying for PR. Most of the family reside in the US so we usually visit on holidays. The kids are accustomed to making friends with people who do not look like them so I am not worried about that aspect. The time difference is not much so keeping in touch with our friends should not be an issue.
Please let me know if I should accept the job right away or seek another after being in Canada a few months, allowing myself some time to get the kids settled in school etc. Thanks
The job is being offered based on the visa I'm going to get. Yes, I want to wait a bit before starting to work because now we will have to consider delays due to traffic should we live away from the GTA. We will definitely try to source a car as soon as we get there. Thanks for the heads up.If someone is offering you a job, are they offering you a job based on your visa that you are going to get, or will they sponsor a work permit for you ?
Yes, Jamaica is indeed closer to Canada than India is, so that should not be an issue. If your children are OK able to adjust then there's nothing better.
Ideally it would be better to settle down first , before starting work. I would suggest to keep a few months expected expense so that you could settle down comfortably. If you are getting a work permit then that is very beneficial to your future plans in Canada, if you chose to stay in Canada.
With regards to rent, do note that the outer regions of the GTA have their own transport agencies. Humber Lakeshore is only served by TTC ( Toronto transit commission ). Therefore while searching for a rental, you will have to look for the public transport, or have a personal vehicle.
