I was thinking the other day that when you visit usa , basically it feels like you are giving up on most of your rights as a human being.
In the name of national security the border people can literally stick their fingers up your !@#hole.

Similar authority seems to be in place for Canadian border officials.

As many people say "they can do anything", that they have much greater authority then Police.

My question narrows down to how far that "anything" can go and if there are any actual rights you can not give up or maintain some sort of privacy and dignity.
Also if you feel that unnecessary excessive measures were used against a visitor, can he/she sue the department for it?
Is anyone an expert in these areas?

As a visitor you are in a vacuum at the border. Rights are pretty much suspended, or severely limited.

As you point out the USA DHS/TSA are way beyond reasonable at this time - google the TSA and be astounded. There are many reports of "suspension of the constitution" .
However, DHS and TSA are not border control staff, far from it.

If the border staff have reasonable suspicion then anything goes, internal body searches, seizure of property, refusal of entry, arrest and much more.

"Sue" them, well you could try if you like spending $$$

Legal experts will charge you for the information that you want, here, you get free opinions :)

The best way to approach entry to any country is,
have all the documentation you can muster,
read and understand the terms of entry (rare for people to do this),
do nothing that is illegal,
be honest,
be patient and
do not lose your cool :)

The other day I was watching a report on Fox News that TSA are thinking of collecting saliva with a swab to capture and hold travellers DNA.

I think the movie "V for Vendetta" was a prophecy and it's slowly being realized.

Things are getting extreme, lots of people have stopped flying in the USA.

There was a news report recently that the TSA set up a checkpoint (nowhere near a border) and tested everyone after they got off of a train !
The TSA claimed it was a mistake.

The good news is, Canada is not that extreme.

Re: student visa rejected, will apply again,,,good idea?

I dont understand your issue? At the port of entry they can ask you anything and do a per rectal examination. If you want to enter any country than you need to be prepared for this!
