I made a very time consuming mistake and applied inland, whilst an outland application would be processed in half the time. Don't judge ;D

How do I withdraw my application? Will CIC send my complete package back?

As I recall, there is a box to mark on one of the billion forms that say "withdraw". Not sure though, I'd appreciate any guidelines.

I called them about that and the agent said that the person sponsoring has to be the one to withdraw. You can email, fax or mail them to do so. I'm not sure if you will get your complete package back. I just withdrew our application today. All I know is that once the cancel it, it takes up to 16 weeks to get your money back. All depends if they started processing it or not

Yes, this is what they CLAIM. It's more like 16 weeks from the moment they decide to process the withdrawal. I imagine it must be a very time consuming process to cancel an application and trash all the documents you sent them. I know of two people who withdrew their application more than 16 weeks ago (one of them in May) and still haven't received their refunds. In my case, a call centre agent told me 'yeah, there's a note on your file about the withdrawal, but nothing has been done about it yet'.

I'm saying this because you shouldn't count on having that money back in your bank account before filing outland. If money is an issue, be prepared to wait more than those 16 weeks.

Also, if your package hasn't left Mississauga, they won't return anything (this is what call centre agents said). If it's already been sent to a VO, it will depend on the VO.

I noted on the main spousal sponsorship thread that someone who contacted CIC had been advised they could use the fees paid for inland as Outland as long as they hadn't started processing the application....however, as most know the call centre agents aren't always known for their tip top advice!

Do they really need to refund the money or can we just include the copy of that receipt for our Outland App if we switch? I don't know if possible but might work?

If you read the experience from alicia13 she withdrew her inland app and applied outland and did not have to get the money refunded but simply used the receipts she had for her outland app....she now is about to get PR 3 months after submitting her outland app. I think it depends on whether your application has started processing, if so you only get certain portions back.

Hi everyone,

May I ask:

1. How long it will take from calling call center to withdraw to receive the package?
2. Can we re-print the same recepit and submit the exact same package to CIC for outland right away? is there any negative impact?
Thank you.

You will likely not get the inland application back when you withdraw the application.

Again according to some experiences you can re-print the receipts as long as your application has not started processing. But you CANNOT submit the same application package for outland. The forms are different and you would need to complete the outland application package and follow the instructions on that. You may also have to get police certificates again as they are only valid for three months. Medicals are valid for a year.

Lastly you need to consider what Visa office you would be applying through outland and what processing times they have. Its useful to check the thread on the forum for that office to see how quickly outland applications are being processed at the moment.

Each persons situation is different so you need to weigh up what works for you. I only know about US/UK applications so just a note of caution.

Hi brucem, so you mean once I withdraw the inland application, I can prepare and send my outland application right away, with my receipt (my inland app submission date still before the stage 1 processed date....)

so in this case, do I need to tell the agent that I do not need refund, and we will re-use it for the outland app?

Again a note of caution as I am simply reiterating the experience of another member so I cannot give you a definite answer as I don't know what stage your application is at, you said that you havent reached the stage 1 processing date....have you received AOR or any correspondence from CIC regarding your application? If so you would have to request a refund which can take 16 weeks. There appears to be some confusion about whether you can apply straight away before you receive conformation that your inland application has been cancelled. What made it easier for alicia13 was that her entire application form was sent back as she was asked to update an outdated form so she knew they had not started processing the form. As I said in my previous post you need to weigh up the pros and cons, processing times, etc etc.

It makes sense. We have got the AOR, so probably we may need to ask for refund...

Thank you so much, brucem :)

No problem! Another point to remember would be that if you are getting close to getting stage one complete and you submitted an OWP with your inland app then it might be just as well to hang on inland if working is whats important...again depends on timescales. However, good luck with what you decide to do.

Resubmit my Inland App June this year and haven't got AOR yet. My application may still not even touched. But when they sent back my Application they gave my sponsor a UCI number already, which I lost that number I wrote in a piece of paper. In doubt if I will withdraw or not at this point of time.
