how to voluntarily relinquishment Canadian Permanent Resident Card

Dear All,
My family and I have Canadian Permanent Resident Cards for the last over one year. These cards are valid till Nov 2017. I am currently living in the US and also obtained US Green Cards.

Please advise:
1. if we can keep both US Green Cards and Canadian PR cards
2. if we decide to voluntarily relinquishment Canadian Permanent Resident Cards, please advise what is the procedure and what we are supposed to do.

There's nothing stopping you from keeping the cards (physically)

You can go to the Canadian Visa office nearest you in order to give up Canadian PR status......officially.
Or let the cards expire and just stay in the US since you have Green Card.

Green Card(USA) holders are allowed to visit Canada without visa.....so you're ok to visit

Thank you for the reply and explanation. I really appreciate this. The problem is after international travel as they ask about keeping both. So better I give up Canadian PR Card.
I need to figure out the procedure how to proceed now. Am I supposed to fill IMM5538 form? Should this be submitted to Detroit office or to CIC in Canada?

Why do you have to give them up because someone asks about them? Do you mean U.S. border guards? Why can't you explain that you have both but live in the United States?

Think twice before you give it up your Canadian card. Most people would pay big bucks to be in your shoes. First of all, you do not have to disclose that you have second permanent resident. Secondary it is legal to have dual citizenship (CA+USA) which you can obtain later on. I lived in Canada for 2 years as a student over 10 years ago, then i acquired US green card and later citizenship. Now I am working really hard in order to obtain Canadian permanent resident and citizenship in future. USA is always been USA but like every big empire there is a time where it will collapse (USA debt is huge). Believe me I established well in US but I think it is good idea to have back up plan. My plan is Canada. This is my personal opinion, but if I would be you, I would keep both. Good luck.

I totally agree with Mr. Blatnoi. I don't think the border guards can do anything to you because of a Canadian PR, and I think that with a green card you have the right to enter the U.S.

But for renewal of PR cards you have to meet the Residency Obligation. You have to stay at Canada physically 730 days out of 5 years from your PR card issue. I think USA is better than Canada. If USA collapses the world will collapse, including Canada.
