Hello everyone,

I am moving to Ottawa to study in September. However, due to all covid restrictions, I am lading at Pearson Aiport, in Toronto.

After completing the three mandatory nights at a hotel in Toronto, I am trying to figure out how to go to Ottawa with three large and heavy baggages.

In Ottawa I am staying at a friend’s house to complete the 14-day quarantine.

My question is: Can my friend pick me up in Toronto and drive to Ottawa, or should I travel to Ottawa by plane/train?

My college hosted a webinar and they said that I can only travel to my final destination by plane/car. I tried to verify this information but couldn’t find anything on the Governments website.

Thanks in advance!

I would advice you to travel by plane. By car, It is 450km by car. If you travel by Sept and book one way ticket now, it is less than 100

You should be able to work with your airline for forward travel after the hotel stay. They're not surprised by those requests any longer, I should hope.

Your best bet is to book directly to your final destination. The domestic airline for your last leg will accommodate your 3-day hotel stay and reschedule your onward flight at no charge. That's what has happened with all the people in the same situation on the FB group that I'm on.

You can also join the group, it's very helpful -Canada Hotel Quarantine/Hôtel Quarantaine - https://www.facebook.com/groups/174202480917107

Assume you are not vaccinated. Public transportation is not possible during your quarantine period expect flights. Your friend could pick you up but you will both need to wear a mask during the entire duration (would recommend an N95) and you'll need to remain in the back and sit on the other side of the car. The windows should be down to provide air circulation within the car. Does your friend have a basement with a bathroom for you to remain during your quarantine period? You have to remain separated from all the non-travelling family members.
