Hi friends, i am a new member here. I was following this blog for past few weeks to research about employment in canada. I saw that we will not be able to get work permit until we get written offer from employer. how to apply for job in canada? would it be enough if i search through some job sites and apply to them? Or should i get referred to employer through any friend? Sorry for my ignorance. I am new at this forum :)

Hi there I see that you had so many look see's on your post but nobody has answered.. you have a very good question too... I guess it really all depends on where you are atm ... My husband is Canadian and we lived in the US ... now hes up in Canada working and I am down here waiting working as well. I have to say he went about it by job sites and friends he knew referred him to companies, he had all his interviews over the phone and landed a job.. funny thing its an American company thats up in Canada so there are many companies that are not just Canadian companies that are up in Canada.. i hope that helps a little.. just felt bad you didnt have anyone respond..
good luck!

I think there is no clear cut answer. My advice would be to do all of the above. Apply using Web-based job sites, and also leverage your friends/professional relationships to network as much as you can. Finally, find out who the leading recruiters are for your field and try to arrange meetings with them. Many will actually call prospective employers on your behalf (no fee is payable by you) to try and help place you.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I am already doing most like applying through web based job sites. All i can't do is getting references as i am not having friends in canada.

Even if you get a job offer doesn't mean the gov will give work permit. It does not work like that, employer has to pay fees file an application and prove there are no Canadians who can do the job.

Well said.

There are lots of "head hunters" out there as well so you might look some up in the area you would like to be one :o

It depends where r u staying right now? In ur home country or in Canada?
If you're in Canada, you need to have a work permit for it. If not, then u must apply for one. visit canadavisa dot com, you'd get the info.
