How to sponsor my spouse

Hi,

I am in Canada for more than a year now on an OWP, I applied under CEC and got my AOR, also applied and received BOWP for another year (expires on July 31, 2015). If everything goes as planned I will probably get my PR sometime next summer. My girlfriend and I (she is from Romania) we are together for more than 4 years now, but never lived together for a long period of time or have any joint bank account or own a house together.

What is the best way for me to sponsor her so she can come to Canada maybe sometime next year? (once I get my PR)
We want to get married, but we are wondering if it's best to wait for me to get my PR first and get married afterwards.
Is it better if we get married in Canada or Europe? Will this affect any of our applications?

Any advise or previous experience, tips will be helpful
Thank you

Hi,

I just responded to a similar query. If its only been couple of months since you applied for PR under CEC, the best option would be to get married asap and add your spouse to your app. both of you will get PR at same time. this is not going to delay you app in any way unless you are almost at the finish point of your PR. even then it would only be a slight delay.

The biggest advantage is that CIC will not scrutinize your relationship. I have friends who submitted only the marriage certificate and not even a single photo of any occasion. You can look up what is needed to add your spouse to your PR app and plan your wedding accordingly. a quick small scale wedding with family for now to add her to your app. and later you can have a big wedding.

A separate spousal app is a frustrating process.

Good luck !

Hi innosense, thank you very much for your prompt reply.
I was worried that if I get married now, this will cause delays or even problems with my PR application.
Do you know if it makes any difference if we get married in Romania, in Europe or in Canada?

Thank you!!!
