How to return to Canada (not deported)

a few details about my stay in canada:

study permit expiry date was dec 30 2013.

march 30 2013: withdrew from george brown (toronto) officially with the "withdrawal form". i am not certain if the school has reported me to CIC for withdrawing, although the document did come with a disclaimer that the college "may update a student's status with CIC." this was in 2013, before the new study permit regulations came into effect.

Dec 21 2013: departed canada before study permit expired.
i haven't received enforcement notices from CBSA, and i do not know if my client number is flagged.

i live in a country which requires visa to enter canada.
if i receive a visitor visa, will cbsa let me in, considering my past in canada? i'm worried about being detained at the airport.

any advice on which type of visa to apply for?

withdrawing from school and leaving afterward isn't going to have any affect on an application for a visitor visa. you left voluntary, and did not overstay, correct? more likely than not, if you needed a student visa to go to the school, the school would have to notify CBSA that you have left and your study permit was no longer valid. What does that have to do with applying for a visa as a visitor?

You were not forcibly removed, you left voluntarily, you didn't overstay. I dare say you will not have any issues during the application or at the border.
