"You should apply to renew your study permit if you intend to travel outside Canada and your permit will expire while you are travelling."

Source: cic.gc.ca

According to the text above, I'm confused now. If I want to go back to my country (it's mean, travel outside Canada), I have to renew my study permit again even though it hasn't expire, yet  ? And how can renew my study permit? :'(

One more question, how can I renew my visa? I searched, however, I think I can receive a reliable answer at this forum. 8)

Thank you a lot :D

Hey!
You only have to renew the study permit if it's going to be expired while you're outside Canada. I left to my country for 2 week in June and came back because the permit was valid till the end of the year. And my visa was also valid.
I applied for a renewal of the study permit in october and it was just approved. When I receive it I will apply for a new visa, because I'm going to my home conutry and will need the visa renewed to get into Canada again.
For the renewal of the visa check the website. You'll have to send the application, passport, photos and copy of the permit to Ottawa. There is a topic at 'Visitors' about Processing Time CPP-O or something like that.
Good luck!

Pre-Assessed..
VISA is a travel document that allows you to travel to canada from anywhere else. So you can leave canada but if you do not have a valid visa, you cannot travel back to canada (dosen't matter if you have a valid study permit). They wont even let you board a plane if your visa has expired. These are 2 completely different things.

a study permit is your legal status in canada that you need to show when you enter canada. So legally, you can enter canada if your study permit is still valid (even if for another day although you might have to answer questions). they recommend you sort your your permit before you leave if its expiring. I once came back to canada with a study permit that was about to expire in a week. So i still had a valid permit but had to explain why i could not re-apply because i had to travel. I was asked if i wanted them to issue me a new one at the airport but i think the imigration officer was very nice. so dont count it to happen to you too.

You have to make sure you apply for a new permit before your old one expires. Even if your new application is in the mail on the day of expiry of the permit, you have implied status untill they process your application and make a decision. You can still stay in Canada if your travel visa has expired as long as you have a valid study permit. Remember, travel visa is for travel purposes only.

I had to apply to CIC in seattle to get a new visa after mine expired and i had to provide my study permit. The visa application is the same as a regular visitor visa application. Not sure if things have changed since but as far as i know, travel visa's can only be issued from outside canada and the US is the country you apply through while in Canada.

Just_do_it,
The process have changed. Now we can apply for a new TRV from within Canada. Here is the link:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/ottawa.asp
It says "Effective May 29, temporary residents currently in Canada with valid student or temporary foreign worker status must submit their application for a new temporary resident visa to the Case Processing Pilot Office in Ottawa (CPP‑O), or visa office that serves their country of nationality." (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-student.asp)
Alicia3105, you can find information about renewal of the TRV here:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/processing-time-ottawa-cppo-application-of-reentry-visa-t109122.360.html
Lots of posts of people that applied and already received or are waiting for their TRVs.
