How to prove common-law relationship and why is it required?

Based on this, does it mean that you become common law after 1 year of cohabitation, but the relationship only exists if you can prove it? So in a case where you lived longer but can prove common law only from a certain date, what would be the real duration of common law cohabitation?

Can someone clear this out please? Thanks

From the day you have established through proof like utility bills, IDs, lease, etc that you live together, you count and wait 365 days to get to 1 year.

Thank you, that's what I thought too. But I have seen lots of responses here saying it starts the moment you move in and complete a year, regardless of proof. And I am so confused....

Hey Ross,

I am planning to apply for PR with my common-law partner. I have a question regarding the lease agreement. In the past two years and the current lease agreement, my name, my partner's name, and the name of a friend (because the apartment is a 2 BHK and we have a close friend living with us) are all included. Is this acceptable as one of the proofs for our common-law partnership, or does the lease have to include only me and my partner?
