Thank you for your explanation. WHat about the question when it says : " which type of records do you wish to request"? 1. Case file 2. Corporate records. So which one to select?

Also , at the stage of "Act & Record" when it says : What type of Information you like to reuest? 1. Note in Electronic file 2. Physical file ...should I choose Electronic file?

Finally in the same stage it ask : File type: then you have to select one ..I selected Immigration file : Permanent residence ..is it right? then I entered the file number as the number mentioned in my landing record. right?
1. Case files

2. Most people go with electronic file to get the GCMS notes as this is faster. If you chose the physical file then CIC find your application, photocopy it and mail it...it may or may not include notes that have been made by CIC...this in the past was useful in revealing operational practices eg RQ triage triggers but CIC on the ball now and usually redact/ black out all that 'juicy/informative' info. Since they have to find your file this takes longer.

3. There should be a citizenship file option and most applicants use their 8 digit UCI - it has the format xxxx-xxxx and is ion your PR Card/ COPR

Can we order CBSA border history (entry and exit) or should I wait and this can be done by CIC themselves, if I order the CBSA entry and exit history, will be
1. good or bad thing
2. facilitate or delay my paper processings
1. Most applicants find it useful in identifying that CBSA data matches their own travel records. For some it means they realize CBSA knows more about their travel and they decide list 'forgotten' absences for others they realize CBSA missed entries especially land border and this can be corrected pre citizenship application.

2. Tick the I authorize CIC to get data from CBSA option to save time as if you don't CIC will at some point in time ask you to get the data and submit it. The submission may or may not fit into their timeline for scheduling you for e.g. test, CJ hearing, oath etc

Here is what I wrote in another thread about it:

I have the same thing on my CBSA report: two of my entries were not on the report. When I saw it, I contacted the CBSA for clarifications and whether it could be fixed (with documents proving my entries). Here is the answer I got:

"I am assuming you traveled by car on those two specific dates. The Border Officers do not necessarily scan the passport into the system when traveling by car as the entry is generally captured by vehicle (license plate number).

You have two options:

1. If you traveled by vehicle to and from the United States and require a report of your land border crossings, please submit a NEW request and provide proof of registration to the vehicle(s) and the license plate number(s). Should the vehicle(s) belong to someone else, we require consent from the owner to allow CBSA to release their Highway Passage report to you. To be valid, a consent letter must be signed, dated, and indicate to whom authority is given with the printed name of the individual giving consent.

2. Submit a NEW request with the documents you attached as proof requesting that a "correction" be made to your travel history and the entries be added to your file."

Please note that CBSA doesn't include EXIT. It states the entry dates ONLY. Canada doesn't track exits and those who think otherwise are disillusioned. I have been to the CBSA office in my city here and they also confirmed it. However, it you want to stamp your passport when exiting Canada, you can go to any CBSA officer at the Airport and request it.

I have already applied for the CBSA report and it took 41 days until I received it.

What if you used your Nexus card for many of your entries? The reason I need my records is because I have a 3-4 week period where I kept crappy track of my border crossings while I still had a rental in the US and a job in the US, just across the border from my permanent residence in BC. I have found every other night I spent out of Canada except for a few dates during this 3-4 week period. I don't want to just overestimate and give those all away as US-spent nights for two reasons: 1. Accuracy with my citizenship application 2. It bumps up my eligibility, which is essential given the timing of my landing (in January of 2012) and the race to beat the new 4-year requirement going into effect before I can apply in March or April of 2015.

Can anyone advise?

I don't use my PR card much when I cross because I only need it at the Aldergrove, BC crossing. I mostly cross at the Pac Highway crossing, which has Nexus.

Thank you.

I have just received my records in the mail today. I ordered under Privacy Act, CBSA report. It took exactly a month to receive it. There are no exit dates, just entries to Canada for the period I requested. even though I asked for electronic records send to my email, I still received a paper copy in my mail only. Works for me.
I decided to order them because I am missing one entry stamp to Canada. I am not sure if it makes processing of the application quicker or longer when I apply, but I don't think there is harm in including the records with your application, and since it is free to obtain

cheers

thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts and experience. Citizen application form says do not contact the CBSA for entry record, from the discussion on this forum seems like people are doing that? In my can my concern is I did land border crossing into US and back few times and not sure CBSA has captured it, if CIC checks it then they may not get complete report. Please let me know is it wise to order disregarding what the citizenship application form says. thanks
