Hi All,

I have recently got passport request and am planning to land in April 2016. My wife is currently in US pursuing her research. When I applied in Express Entry, I mentioned that my wife would not be accompanying.

I want to apply for PR for my wife once I settle down there.
1. Could anyone please suggest how should I proceed?
2. Will her PR procedure be same as I followed or she can be brought on Dependent status also? If on dependent status, would she be able to work in Canada?

Kindly suggest.

once you land in canada..u can apply spouse sponsorship program..any lawyer will do for you...and yea..it will take time but not so long..new government is changing rule to help bring spouse faster.you can go to cic website and hit search for spouse sponsorship progam..she will land as PR too..but didnt CIC ask you why u didnt include wife in your application??because lots of debate goin on in thread that u have to include as accompanying partner if you are married but you successfully got PPR with that...congrax..

There is no issue in including spouse as non-accompanying, because lot of people prefer settling in Canada before they want their spouse to be settled with them. There can be numerous reasons that spouse will not be accompanying in initial phase. So this pretty normal and CIC does not have any objections with it.

Thanks gorkhethito for your reply.

There was one section where this was asked. i mentioned that i want to first settle down and then want my spouse to come over.

1. I just saw the sponsorship program and found out that the time required for spouse sponsorship to process is 17 months. In this way, the express entry way of getting PR for her would be faster. Right?
2. In case i would like to get her to Canada and live with me (without PR) while her application is getting processed. Is this allowed (I mean she can live with me on Visa while her PR is getting approved)?
3. I have read that now there is possibility in which spouse can even work while his/her application is being processed. Is it applicable at this date?

Thanks in advance.

1. Manhar 17 months is for delhi VO. your spouse's VO is going to be delhi?
2. I know someone whose wife was on visitor visa while her application was being processed.
3. This work thing is tricky part. I dont think spouse is allowed to work on visitors visa.

I ll suggest if you think your wife can get good CRS then go the express entry way.

I would recommend that you post your questions to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum as some of the answers you are getting here are not entirely accurate.

Thanks CJS.

She is currently in US but holds and Indian Passport. I am not sure what her visa office would be in this case.

I also second this, try getting more insight from Family Sponsorship section.
