My wife is Canadian and I'm Danish. We currently live in Denmark but plan on moving to Canada within the next 18 months. We are working on our visa application and hope to submit it within the next month.

But how do you make the decision when to move? I find it really hard, one thing is leaving my friends and family, that's hard but I have come to terms with it. But the insecurity of it all is hard I feel. We expect our first baby end of Ferbruary and are thinking about moving in the fall when the baby is around six months old, but I feel scared about moviing to a country without having a job or any other means of supporting us, not knowing how long we have to live like that.

How did you make the decision? Do we just do it hope everything works out?

How about looking at currency cross rates? For example, the Danish currency is in historical high compare to the Canadian dollar?

It wouldn't be easy to leave everything behind and relocate for good to canada, I think the logical explanation is that you leave things in the hope of getting new things* ( better living, job, stability,etc...) this is the way i evaluated my move to canada, although i'm moving from the middle east which relativeley the standards of living, values, stability,etc... differs from what it is in denmark.

so i think gradually you need to "emotionally" shift yourself to a new life, i would say start integrating with online communities, social groups, etc..

Good luck :)

You haven't described much of your background or why you want to move. its always an emotional battle, but you need to try and be objective - ask yourself, why do you want to move? Is it a hope of a better life? What are you giving up back home? You have indicated that you don't have a job yet in Canada. Although individual cases are all unique, the general experience of new immigrants has been rather challenging - takes time to get a good job and you initially have to settle for a survival job - long hours and little pay - and basically rely on your savings you have brought. It is not a cheap place and your dollars will not go too far without a good job. If you've giving up a good job and a settled life to move, then my advice would be not to. Good luck!

Leaving by choice is one thing, leaving because your UK visa expired is another. For me, it was the second thing that made me move to Canada and join my family there. Otherwise, I would be pretty happy with the English/European lifestyle of living in the UK.
