How to know if my study permit approval is for my current DLI, and not a previous one?

Cool, now I'm convinced that was not the reason. I believe your SP is against your new College. All available evidence points to that.
Go to Canada already.
So they gave me a one year validity period simply becos of the 1 year duration of my College B program?

Why do people wanna downgrade their DLI when they get their SP? How is that bad anyway?

Well, I already said that IRCC gave me at eTA for my new passport. It will be very farnie that they issue me my LOI based on my old passport.
I only need to be there in December cos my first semester is done online.

But there are frustrations to deal with even if my SP is legit. I am exploring rental options in Lakeshore, Toronto where my college is.
I cant find any Airbnb options that are close by. On campus residence cost an arm and a leg, I aint forking out that much money to stay there.

Place4students seem to cater to female students, they want you to have a guarantor (which I dun have) and sign a one year lease. (I only wanna find a short term stay for 1 semester. Might wanna move after that if my field placement is at some other place)

I found some housing ads from kijiji, I dun know if these are for real, or they are scams.

Unfortunately, you pay a high price for living the Toronto life :).
Kijiji is mostly legit. You just need to make sure before you part with your money.

By the way, I am very surprised that for homestays there, you MUST take up a meal plan with the hosting family, if not a lot of host families will not even consider hosting you.

How can you be sure that Kijiji is legit? They wun have leases for you to sign right? It is just a mutual agreement between you and the landlord?
If you enter into a private agreement with a landlord, and then somehow they change their mind when you come over, you're screwed aren't you?

They will charge more, usually, if you want to stay for less than 12 months. Like, if you want to stay only 6 months, they will almost double the rent so that you will be paying for 1 year even when you stay only for 6 months. Usually, students take 1 year lease and then they sub-lease to other students after 6 months. So, your options are- Find students looking for sub-lease and you rent for 6 months. OR take 1 year lease and sub-lease to another student when you want to leave.

Reason why homestays require meal plan is because it creates a win-win situation to both parties. The home-owner can get extra money while students can get subsidized meal. It is how their business model works and they can't change it (usually). This is what makes them different than typical rental places and helps them compete in the market. Its like you going to a burger shop and saying you only want buns and dont want to pay for anything else..... you are free to throw away the burger patties, lettuce etc but you still have to pay full price.

Btw, this info is based on my experience in rental markets in N America in general, I don't know exact situation in Toronto. Where do you find home-stays? Can you please share websites?
