How to Know if my reference letter qualifies me for a PR

Hello everyone,

I have been working as a grill clerk / Cook for almost 3 months now.

I asked my employer if he can give me a reference letter so i can apply for the PR and he said yes i can that wont be an issue.

so I will be getting my reference letter soon BUT i am really worried if what I am doing will qualify me or not

basically I cook and prepare ethnic middle eastern food
cut meats such as steaks, chickens using the knife based on the plates guided portions
season the meats and marinate them with their recipe.
I make their special sauces from scratch
I maintain records of supplies, wastage, and sold foods and dips
I train new staff members for their job duties, sanitation and safety procedures.
clean the work environment, clean & sanitize BBQ grills, Ovens, flat grills etc.
and plenty of more duties


I went to VisaPlace few weeks ago. I gave him a sample of my job description * WHICH WAS NOT PROVIDED BY THE EMPLOYER* I am the one who wrote it so its not official



the consultant said....

the job description sounds fine but the wording and the way its written poorly and stuff like that and i will be 100% rejected for the PR based on that. and stuff

I understand its a marketing strategy they asked for 5000 Canadian dollars which is a bit too much.

I applied for my PGWP alone for 220 dollars or something. i strongly believe i can safely apply for my PR on my own but i just want to know and find out if my job duties and reference letter will qualify for a PR if I apply on my own


I dont know what to do at the moment

any suggestion ?

Your job duties need to be in the letter from your employer. You cannot provide your own job duties - that will result in refusal.

The job duties cannot be written as you have written above. They need to be more formal and can't have grammatical / structural errors.

I was just showing him a sample of what I do. I will not be submitting that one for sure. I am just showing you guys a few of my job duties as a sample.

Your employer should use his/her own words, but the job duties and responsibilities should align with the NOC.

Depending on your background and whether you have held previous employment as a cook, the VO may want to see some evidence of training and or other certification which may be available from your province. Not mandatory, but it would help.

Diplomas, certificates, or if it was on-the-job training, that can be mentioned in the letter of reference. Like if you have any safe food handling course, you should have a certificate for that..

I do not have any certificates of cooks by any means.

However a training and propationg period were taken.
