How to indetify rentals scam?

Hi, I'm a newcomer to Canada and I'm looking for rentals on Facebook, Kijiji, and place4students how can I Identify Scams?

I'm an International Student, a Male looking for a room, etc but I don't want to be scammed per I don't know how Canada markets works and Toronto Areas for example.. I'm looking for something near Seneca College.

if possible have someone you know there to check out the place for you or get a place with other people who are already there and may have an empty room or look into student housing which is safe.
You can also look into temporary housing like an airbnb so you can go there and be able to hunt for a place yourself

How about on-campus housing? I believe Seneca has an intercampus shuttle service. You may want to look into that. A decent room in the GTA averages $600. On-campus rooms around that price, too.
