Hi all,

We are family of 4 with 2 kids aged 5 and 7 and our combined family income is around 180k. We are interested in hiring an in home care giver to take care of our kids. Home Child Care Provider Pilot and Home Support Worker Pilot program was ended on June 17, 2024. What other options do we have.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you live in Quebec?

The program will be relaunched so wait for announcement. That is your option. FYI, current processing is almost 3 years. So if it reopens in January 2025, processing may not be completed until 2028.

Get an ad in the newspaper or online and hire someone already legally in Canada

I believe the quickest way is to post an Ad on Facebook...filter through different candidates and if they're outside of Canada, all you have to do is provide supporting documents like affidavit of support letter. You don't have to pay for anything. The candidate is solely responsible for visa application but surely, if you agree to pay for their flight to Canada upon approval, airport pick up etc... then that would definitely help

Thank you very much for your help and really appreciate it. we are in a peculiar situation, our kids, even though born in Canada, they were grown up back home. They only speak our mother tongue and catching up on their English language skills. Food is also an issue. Do you think LMIA would be an appropriate option in our case? Thanks

So a LMIA is not an option for you. LMIA is only an option if you lived in Quebec. Your caregiver must go through the HCCP program. Wait for new details. In the meantime, processing is 3 years so by then kids will know English so conversation will not be a problem. So that is around 2028. Post your full time position on local job sites looking for a caregiver with median salary for the NOC. Get a caregiver whose first language is English so kids can quickly learn English which will help them at school. You can prepare their meals too.
