how to get COPR validated?

My husband just got his Confirmation of Permanent Residency letter! We sent in the application in May, and I'm surprised that it was approved this quickly! Anyway, we've been living in Edmonton for almost a year now (I'm a Canadian citizen, working full-time, we have a 2-year-old daughter, etc). I know that my husband needs to re-enter Canada and meet with a Customs officer in order to get his COPR validated. But the letter also mentioned visiting a Citizenship & Immigration Office in order to do the same thing? There is an office in downtown Edmonton, but it says "by appointment only" and it gives no phone number or way to contact that office?

So what should we do? I would rather not have to make a road trip all the way down to the border to do this.

1. YOu can phone 1-888-242-2100 to make an appointment (6-8 weeks about) or make a road trip to the border. Your choice.

on your husband's COPR it should say that you can go to the nearest POE or phone the CIC call centre to arrange for a landing appointment. as far as I know, landing appointments can be as far as a 3-8 weeks out and a pain to book - the CIC agent won't book the appointment, but will send a request off to the landing office and they will contact you (which is why you see no number listed). The landing office has 90 days to get in touch with you, so in some cases waiting for an appointment could technically be up to 4+ months (90 days + 3-8 weeks). If you're in no hurry for your husband to land, you should call CIC and find out about a landing appointment. Flagpoling at a land border, however, would be the fastest option, despite the drive.

My husband and I did the drive from Edmonton to Montana in one day a few weeks ago. It wasn't too bad, though there wasn't any snow on the ground like there might be now, lol. It took us 13 hours total round trip, and that included the wait at the border.

Okay, thank you. I'll talk to my husband to see what we should do. We already made that long trip down to the border a few months ago to officially import our car. If it would be faster, then it's worth it. But I just dread spending that long in the car with my 2-year-old... :'(
