How to Get Canadian Driving License -for Newcomers

Dear , i am here in BC and applied for my DL , i have PAK DL karachi from last 34 years and last year i have changed it to computrize one , in licence its printed that first licence was issued in 1979, but ICBC take my PAK DL and NOC letter for verification and issue me Learner licence (which is useless as i cant drive car on this without any full licence person who is 25 year old atleast), now when i inquired him about my PAK DL verification they told me we are not satisfied with these and you provide complete driving history , i dont know what they required know, my question is how i satisfy him about my licences ( when i first visited ICBC they told me they have seen this type of licence first time)...I dont know what i do... please advise me... as i go through whole process it takes 3 years to get DL in BC.

Dear you need an NOC from KArachi driving authority stating the issuance dates of all licenses you have had and expiry. Check this thread of mine "how to get driving license for Pakistanis". I have given a sample of NOC I obtained from traffic police in Islamabad. I know a friend of mine who has obtained NOC from Karachi and he got full G license in Ontario. Check this link

In your NOC you must state that your first driving license was issued on "that date" and then you got new computerised license on "that date"

If possible also try to attest NOC from ministry of foreign affairs.

I got NOC from Islamabad and attested from ministry of foreign affairs. My NOC was accepted in Ontario and I now have full G license.

Last month I got full G license in my first attempt, with DriveTest, Guelph, Ontario.

Congrats...Guelph is easy....

I passed my G test in first attempt in Kitchener. Its also an easy one.

Buddies in Ontario, try Kitchener, Guelph or Clinton. They all are piece of cake. Good luck all.

And always avoid Brampton. It is said to be the most difficult one.

If any one wana know my driving instructor his name is "Inayat" he is from Pakistan. He was good. He charges $30 per lesson..

7. On the day of test, you need a car too. So same instructor will take you to test place in his/her same car but you need to pay extra i.e. around $75-$100 for that day, plus you have to pay G license test fee that is $95. Its all money so be careful while taking test, its costly affair.

8. Full G license cost me around $400 inclusive of 4 classes ( @ $23 per class) from a very good instructor including all fee (G1($85) & G test($95) fees) along with car ($130) on the day of test, as I went to Guelph Test Drive center, some 100Km away from Toronto.

I appreciate NN74 for your valuable post however there is a small correction. G road test fees is $85 and not $95... and just G1 license fees is $95 , I think you put in reverse order

Can you tell me the exact reason why they can't accept your NOC. Did you write details of issue and expiry of all licenses you have in your NOC?

because you wrote in your last post that they told you you had not mentioned your whole driving history in your NOC.

Check the NOC I obtained from Islamabad and make one like that..

If you are going to Ontario and you don't have a license or you have a brand new license, you will have to wait for a year before you can take a road test and get a license that allows you to drive by yourself (G2). If you go to a driving school, you can cut this down to 8 months. In Alberta, if you had no license, you wait for a year but if you have a foreign license, even if it is brand new, you can take a road test and get a probationary license (GDL) right away.

A car does not have to be an essential mode of transportation. It depends on where you live and you can choose where to live so that you do not need a car. Of course your job choices may also be affected as you would not be able to take a job in a neighbourhood where there is no public transport or shifts when no public transport is running. Still.. public transport in Canada is usually pretty good.

I got my drivers license September 2013 in Norway. So my drivers license by then, will have been valid for about 12 months.

Does this mean I can take the G1 road test and get the G2 license?
and all I need is my Norwegian DL, and the letter of authentication and/or true translation copy? (just not sure yet about the Norwegian RTO)

Yes, that means you should be able to take the G1 road test without the waiting period and get your G2 license. Of course you have to pass the G1 written exam first

Dear after so many follow ups they send me letter that we are not accepting your KHI DL as their is some missing security features... i dont now what security featuers they are looking..i check several khi DL of freiends they all are same.. even they are not ready to send it to pak conslatete in vancouver and also not giving back my khi dl..

on 31st dec. i got my G1 at Toronto.

the officer said, my Delhi licence doesnt appear to be a 'Genuine' one, so get a letter from Delhi Transport authority or Indian Consulate.
(she said , ''i tried to match it with 1990 s till 2000 photos of Delhi licences'', mine was made in 1994).

i tried my best to assure her, but no success!

i didnt argue!

now,
i have heard, Consulate guys will take so much of time and bribe too.

and at Delhi, Trans Auth. issues letter of experience 'in person' only by taking photo, finger prints and retina scan.

guide me what to do?

I want to try 'G' directly!
