Go to your nearest Service Canada. Make sure to bring your COPR and some form of identification, like your passport. I believe that's all you need. :)

Thanks! Does the COPR have to be signed? And I just realized I sent all original documents to the CIC :( any idea how to get those back? I sent my birth certificate and our marriage certificate :(

Uh oh, people who get their originals back usually have to send a self-addressed stamped envelope with their docs. Since you weren't supposed to send in originals in the first place, I don't know what they will do. Try the call centre maybe.

As for the COPR, it gets signed or stamped at the border when you activate it.

Is COPR enough for a SIN, or you have to wait for the PR card?

The COPR is enough. It's a legal document. The PR card is just a nice compact version of that document.

It will be signed/stamped wherever you land. If it's an airport, it will be there. If you are coming in from the U.S. By land, it will be done wherever you cross.

That's good to hear :) Definitely want to job hunt as soon as I'm able!! Waiting for the PR card would be such a waste of time.

Yes, it says on your COPR (do you have it already?) that you will sign it in the presence of an officer once you land, either at a border crossing, international airport, or at an immigration office by appointment.

COPR is enough. You also need it for getting things like health insurance. Always keep your COPR.

Yup COPR is enough to apply for SIN.

But COPR and PR Card are quite different. A PR Card a legal travel document that will allow you to board commercial carriers to trips to Canada from outside the country. COPR is not a legal travel document. And you will need your COPR in addition to PR Card when you apply for citizenship and COPR is needed far down the road for Old Age Pension.

So don't use it as a drink coaster.
