I have my PR and am planning to relocate permanently to Toronto / Vancouver by April 2018.
I have started to apply for jobs with a local address on the resume, but without a phone number, its hard to get call backs.
I looked up Google Voice but that doesn't have any conclusive evidence that an account can be created in Canada and used from abroad.

My friend in Canada is there to help out with creation of an account.
Has anyone on this forum tried to apply for jobs from abroad and had a local phone number on it?

Try flynumber.com. Lines are $2.95 a month and rates aren’t bad

I checked it out but didn't find any reviews for it. is that really legit?

I am now considering spending on a Skype US number to add on my resume, so i can get incoming calls from recruiters. Pricey, but safer IMO.

Just buy a prepaid or postpaid Canadian plan if your friend can help you out.You can also consider vonage.

Recruiters will look into area code and figure out that it's a USA no. and not Canadian no. In fact, Recruiters will look for local city numbers only. So if you are targeting Greater Toronto Area for job hunting then look for no. that starts with Toronto code. You can use TextMe or Fongo to get local Canadian no.

Thanks. I can't find any information on whether I can get Fongo to work from outside Canada. Just a bunch of online reviews.

Why not go for Vonage Virtual number? Just select the area say Toronto and you'll get that number for something like $6/mo you'll be able to receive calls.

I asked my friend in Toronto to buy a prepaid sim and mail it to me. Using KOODO prepaid mobile

It requires a bit of configuration, but you can do it on voip.ms for about a dollar a month.

You can forward the number to another number.

But the minimum amount of credit to add is US$25.
