Hi,

I would like to know how can I get a 3 year PGWP in Canada, currently my situation is as follows:

Enrolled in 1 year Health Informatics Post Graduate Cert program in 'X' college in Toronto. It is one year program with 8 months class room program and 4 months Co-op. The duration of the program is from Sep 2018 - Aug 2019.

Please help me with my following questions, any help or guidance will be highly appreciated:
  1. Should I enroll in another PG Dip/Cert program after finishing the above program.
  2. Which programs, in addition to Health Informatis, will qualify me for getting a 3 year PGWP (i.e Project Management, Data Analytics etc.)
  3. Should I use the PGWP for one year that I will get after finishing my Health Informatics program and then apply for second 1 year program 'Or' I shouldn’t use the PGWP from first program and continue with the second program
  4. How and when should I apply for student visa while being in Canada for the second program, do I need to return to India or can I apply from within Canada
My goal is to get 3 Year PGWP so that I can apply for Express Entry in the future
Thanks

I also have the same future plan, but with slight differences.
1. I would recommend you to apply for the next possible intake after you have graduated. For example, you're graduating in August '19, should apply for Sept '19 in the same or another college. Try not to have any gap between your academic terms.
2. Any program which is in line with your academic background would be more beneficial( related to health) compared to other programs(such as government relations, data analytics).
3. It is not advisable to have a certificate-PGWP-certificate pattern. It would be better with 2 or more back to back programs with lengths ~2 years as you'll be eligible for 3 years PGWP.
4. I think we can apply for visa extension within Canada.

My answer could be subjected to correction by other experienced members.

Please note you can only apply for PGWP once, if you do 1 year program then get 1 year PGWP that is it you can never get PGWP again.
So you need to connect 2 one year programs to get 3 year PGWP as long as both courses are eligible and you follow the rules.

Thank you so much Deepanshu, for your reply and information

I will go with 2 back to back programs and then apply for 3 years PGWP. on this note, can you please share your thoughts on how should I go for applying for student visa while I would be in Canada, I've heard that you have to return to India and then apply for student visa. Also when should I apply for visa as the first course will finish in Aug 2019
Secondly will i get PGWP for sure after finishing 2 course. have there been any instances of rejection?

Regards

Thanks for the reply and information Bongoman, yes that is what I am planning to do, 2 one year programs and utilize my PGWP only after the completion of my second program.

I have one more question which is little off from this conversation:

Question - I checked my points for express entry on IRCC and I have a score of 67 on the basis on one year Canadian edu and one year work exp (assuming I get to work one year full time on PGWP), if I apply,is this sufficient to get a PR under express entry. This is just a thought however I will cont doing 2 year back to back edu in Canada. please suggest. Thanks

just apply for ur program before ur permit expires. once u get accepted apply for study permit extension before ur permit expires and make sure u dont leave Canada. If u leave Canada and ur permit expires. It is 100% chance that they will reject it if u apply extension outside Canada. let me know if u have any other concerns.

You're welcome!
As Chakrat has mentioned, coming back to India and then applying for student visa(or extension) is an ill-advise. You can apply for an extension within Canada provided your student permit hasn't expired. Just apply before it expires. As far as I have heard, there hasn't been a single instance where a valid and eligible candidate has been refused for PGWP.

And if you're on different visa in Canada(visitor) then I believe you have to return to India in order to get a study permit.

I think thats the federal skilled worker calculator.
Express entry is this one http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp 440 seems to be the minimum score you can get invitation with. Then in addition you need to meet the requirements of one of the streams such as federal skilled worker, canadian experience class or Pnp nomination.

With just 1 year PGWP it would be difficult to get a full year of experience unless you secure a job as soon as you apply.

u can apply for extension 90 days ahead from the date of expiry. I would say it is better to apply early as it may take time to process ur application. Admission for programs are open for Jan 2019 intake. U can consult with ur advisor if u can enrol in to a program in a the same program while u r waiting for ur grades. u can also let ur advisor know what ur current situation is like ur study permit is expiring on this date(dont tell them the real date).

Thanks dear ... And one more thing is it necessary to again show 10500CAD$ in our bank account for the Visa extension ... As because now I had to show this amount in my account for the staying ,food and other expenses in Canada then only the Visa agency approved me for the Visa
So I m asking is it necessary to again show this amount for further extension to my study Visa ?

u need to show them a proof of statement or support( If ur father or mother is supporting u then u need a signed a document saying they r supporting u.) U will have to show there bank statement with some amount in it. Just note that if u r planning to take an year program show them 10K atleast.

Thanks but are you saying this procedure after opting for next one year program in Canada after my current grad program gets over ...or u saying it for now ? Bcz now I HV already got the Visa and for now I had to show the 10500cad$approx 550000rupees in my account ... My question was wther I had to again show this same amount after one year program and opting for the scnd one year program for the Visa extension?
