I understand JENNYSEC that it might be different spec for photo submitted for PR card and for a visa, however, I am NOT submitting photo for PR card, I am submitting photo for immigration visa. My understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong, once we are in canada, we need to submit another photo for PR card. Nevertheless, I agree that we should not wasting time doing an incorrect photo which will be returned anyway.

Anyone else want to share info on this issue?
According new rules you should not re submite aplication for PR card after lending in canada. At time of lending Immigration office will ask adress in canada where they can send PR card.So this photos will used for immigration visa as well as pr card.

Do not worry about the "at least" specifications...you don't want to have your application returned. I got my pictures taken a few months back and encountered the same issues. Called around everywhere and could not find a place that'd do it (many places had specifications for Canadian passport size but not immigration). So I ended up going to a studio (Sears) with my sheet and explained to the photographer what needed to happen. He said he'd try and played with it for a while. As long as you have your head proportions correct you can cut it yourself. We did a couple of takes before getting the proportions right and I went home and cut them myself and they were the perfect size. Good luck.

Thx for the info JENNYSEC, it is new info for me.

Ayinka, I'm not worry about "at least" spec, I'm worry about "must have" spec. Thx for your info, I did plan to contact Sears as well. I believed, it'll cost much more than taking pic at CVS.

JENNYSEC, thx for the link. I found the following info from the link. Can you tell me what does it mean by automatically?

"Since June 2002, all new permanent residents automatically receive their first PR Card as part of the immigration process."

As several people have said in this thread already, they will process the PR Card for you at the border when you land based on the pictures you provide them with now for them to process your visa. Hence the need to give them the photos per specs which they need for your visa and PR card. They will ask you for an address in Canada to send the PR Card to and you'll automatically be processed in the high priority line (shortening your waiting time).

You're actually pretty lucky, nick_s, as living in Boston you have access to lots of photographers in your immediate area that can do this for you ... even some recommended by the Canadian consulate!

you get appropriate answer from OhCanadiana ...Just give Canadian address at the time of lending and all set. They will send your PR card at your address.

Hi All,
My PR application has been approved and has to submit passport to get immigrant visa but have question regarding the size of the photo.
US passport photo spec in US is 2" x 2", this is what you get if you going to CVS, Walgreen, etc. But, according to the photo spec guideline for Canadian immigrant visa (and I quote directly from the guideline): "the photo must have a 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8” x 1 3/4”) finished size." Interestingly, if I look at the photo spec guideline for Canadian visitor visa it says: "The frame size must be at least 35 mm x 45 mm (1 3/8″ x 1 3/4″)."
That said, is it OK if I submit 2" X 2"? If not, how could I get 1 3/8” x 1 3/4” photo in US?

When I submitted my photo for my application, I went to a CVS who happen has, in their machine, a different set of photo ID size option. I recently went there (and to some other location as well) and their machine is now have only 1 option, which is a 2" x 2".

Thx all!
Simple, if you have a digital camera you can just stand behind the white wall, walk away atleast 4 steps away from the wall and take a picture on your head below your shoulder. Have it print at the printing shop like kodak, it can also save you money and had a quality pics. Hope that helps
